History
The 3U07 guided round was developed as part of Russia’s effort to modernize the long-serving 57mm automatic cannon and adapt it to modern battlefield threats. As small UAVs, loitering munitions, and low-flying helicopters became increasingly common, traditional unguided 57mm ammunition proved inefficient against fast, maneuvering targets. In response, Russian designers pursued a precision solution that could be integrated into existing gun systems rather than relying solely on missiles.
The result was the 3U07, a laser-guided 57mm projectile intended for advanced platforms such as the 2S38 Derivatsiya-PVO air defense system. By combining high muzzle velocity with semi-active laser guidance, the 3U07 allows these platforms to engage aerial and lightly armored ground targets with greatly improved accuracy and reduced ammunition expenditure.
Testing of the 3U07 was conducted as part of Russia’s broader evaluation of next-generation 57mm air-defense and combat support systems. Trials focused on validating the round’s compatibility with modern 57mm platforms, particularly those intended to counter small and agile aerial targets. During test firings, the 3U07 was used against laser-designated targets to assess guidance reliability, in-flight stability, and hit probability compared to standard high-explosive ammunition.
Details
The 3U07 is a guided “smart” 57mm artillery round developed for Russia’s modern 57mm gun systems, mainly the 2S38 Derivatsiya-PVO. Unlike normal shells that rely on volume of fire, the 3U07 is designed to hit targets with high accuracy using guidance.
After being fired, the round deploys small control fins that allow it to steer in flight. It uses laser guidance, following a laser beam aimed at the target by the fire-control system. This makes it especially effective against UAVs, drones, helicopters, and lightly armored vehicles.
The shell fits into the standard 57mm cartridge, meaning it can be used without modifying the gun. It carries a high-explosive warhead strong enough to destroy aerial targets with a single hit. The main goal of the 3U07 is to reduce ammo usage while increasing kill probability, giving 57mm guns a role similar to short-range missiles but at a much lower cost.

Adding this to the premium variant of the 2S38 probably isn’t ideal so I recommend adding it to a later variant of the 2S38 like the one seen at the 2025 Russian Victory Parade to the research tree at a higher BR, it has a few visual differences.
