3D map visualizer with distance calculator

So i just noticed an infamous warthunder stats website got a new feature where you can see all warthunder grb maps with almost 80% of its details.

This got me thinking “wait, if you can already see the map like this, what if you add a functionality to place two points on the map and get the distance between them” after all, there are already some websites that allow you to load a ground battle map, select two points and get the distance. For all i know, warthunder mods have said that it is fine since you are literally just using pythagoras theorem.

My question is, would a 3D version of that cross the line? we are obviously talking about an isolated map viewer, you would need to manually place the two points in the map, but im genuinely unsure if the player base or gaijing would be fine with it.

Of course for a typical tank this wouldnt necessarily be miles better than the 2D map distance calculator, but for indirect fire could be game changer.

Next up: “Is private custom lobbies crossing the line? Because you can freely explore and study the map.”. It’s a fine tool, something that could’ve been made in the past and I think tools like those should be encouraged for map studying instead of using the time to go on the map by yourself and looking for spots. Even I doubt that this really give a advantage given the quality of the image and the 3D map viewer.

thats why i said in most cases, for most tanks, this kind of tools are actually worse than just shooting once to get the distance or just use the rangefinder. The application i thought could be controversial is indirect fire, where you have all the time in the world granted your target doesnt move. Yes using the custom lobbies works the same, but be real, you wont learn more than a couple of funny spots, (if you ever get to use them)
