The F9F-8T was the only version of the Cougar to have seen combat. H&MS-11 and H&MS-13 each flew four F9F-8Ts, by then redesignated TF-9Js, in Vietnam between 1966 and 1968. The Cougars were used as fast-FAC airborne command and control aircraft. Here a TF-9J assigned to H&MS-13 takes off from Chu Lai Air Base for a mission. In addition to its two 20-mm cannons, it is armed with two rocket pods, each containing four 5-inch Zuni rockets. (NNAM)

A +1 from me! More F9F-8s are always appreciated!

I actually really like the twin-cockpit design of the F9F-8T Cougar (which is already one of my favourite 1950s-era-looking jet fighters).

Its overall service as a trainer and its even combat as one during Vietnam is very interesting.

I hope it also comes with an Argentine skin, as they were the ONLY other operators of the Cougar.

I read the entire history section 7 times over to make sure I didn’t misread. How is it “the only cougar to fire a shot in anger” like the title said? Anyways I love trainers and when this gets added I’ll add it the ny catalogue. Yes, when it gets added, not if it gets added. +1

When F9F Cougar entered service, the Korean War is almost over and so the type did not face combat in Korea. By the 1960s, the fighter variant of Cougar has been replaced in frontline service by supersonic fighters. And so, only the TF-9J (trainer variant of Cougar) ever took part in combat, as they’re flying Forward Air Control missions during the Vietnam War
