2s38 Battle Rating

So you can hide your damn vehicle as much as possible behind a hill so you’re less exposed and therefore don’t get spotted immediately or get killed/crippled because the enemy can now hit your hull due to lack of depression

It really doesn’t matter what your tank is at top tiers, bad gun depression is a problem

No, I was talking about M1128 specifically.

You literally have no idea what you are talking about.
image
For reference Radkampf:
0-30 - 3,11
0-60 - 9,51
0-MAX - 26,11

The only tank I can think of that has better acceleration is only VT1-2.

More spaceous, mroe crew members.

Not always you have a flanking option, and even when flanking you wan’t to have cover because you need to be safe while reloading, even when flanking you are not standing out in the open, and not every flanking option provides flat surfaces.

M1128 is 10.3

strong text

Don’t forget turn radius, radkampf has an insanely tight turn radius for a wheeled vehicle
M1128 is just a bus

bro spawn camped me 😭

Personally I think all SPAAGs should be given “the 2S38 treatment.” BR them where they are expected to hunt tanks at least part-time instead of being vilified for doing so. Give them all the necessary tools to make hunting aircraft easy, as well as tools for tank-hunting. But keep them generally fragile.

honestly at least for arcade that vehicle should be way higher. this is a mode where thermals and lws doesnt matter really yet it is ranked the same

He was told he’s equal to HSTV-L.

What SPAAGs you are talking about? Because all the Gepard-likes already at the BRs where they can hun tanks and do it constantly

This sentence makes absolutely no sense. Most SPAAGs are already at the BRs where they can and do hunt tanks and they are vilified exactly for that reason not because they can’t, what are you even talking about.

They already do, it’s called radars and lead indicator, what elese you want?

They already do, it’s called their guns

Dude your entire comment feels like senseless halucination.

All of them. All of them should be intentionally buffed with the expectation they should hunt tanks, with the open threat to buff them more the more people whine about them.

And I am proposing vilifying the whiners instead of the SPAA. Those same types of people have been crying about any and every AA since longer than I have been playing this game (>11 years). Clearly continuing to nerf AA will not shut them up because such folk will just find another autocannon to whine about, so why not intentionally do the opposite of what they cry for just to spite them because they won’t shut up as blatant punishment for not shutting up?

I am referring here to all the SPAAG without radar units, which I would give a short-range default lead indicator based on the Rangefinding Crew Skill that caps out at 1.6km distance with Ace Qualification, but is minimum out from 0-1km. Radar AA keep exactly what they have already.

No, it’s me seeing a recurring pattern and thinking "Continuing to nerf AA is the definition of insanity because the people crying about dying to AA will endlessly move the goalposts to find something new to cry about and never take accountability for their actions. Are there underlying game mechanics AA happen to be good at exploiting that need fixing? Absolutely. But continuing to nerf AA isn’t going to fix those, or the past decade plus of repeated nerfing would have done it already.

I also have open hatred for folk who would rather whine about something than get off their ass and go use the tools that are available to kill their “problem” themselves. Their victim mentality, in other words.

“Continuin” as if Gepard-like SPAAGs received any nerfs at all. Literally nothing were done to them except moving them up in BR along with every other Cold War tanks. Which, if anything, moved them in position where they see none/way less WW2 inpenetrable fortresses, and see more of juicy paper thin Cold War tanks.
They need nerf exactly because nothing was done to keep them in balance. SPAAG should be primarily an AA unit, not anti tank, it should posess anti tank capabilities for self defense and limited offense but nothing more. Historical APHE spalling mechanic that was tested a while ago should be applied to autocannons, so that single APHE shell that is spammed and not even aimed would not desintegrates entire crew. As well as APHE belts should be reduced to every-other/every 4rth round being APHE and not pure APHE. People farming nukes on ZA-35 (or whatever that African gepard on wheels is called) and ItPsv explicitly shows that this class is currently out of balance. Same can be said for Coelion, but it at least PARTIALLY balanced by the fact it plays against well armored tanks, yet it is still an immense cancer tank.

Nah, this seems balanced wdym

Yes, “continuing” is the correct term. Gaijin’s repeated butchering of autocannon lethality over the past decade does absolutely nothing to address both the underlying mechanical problems which aren’t actually specific to SPAAG at all (APHE postpen, barrel damage existing, city clusterfuck maps, and old 2D armor models full of holes and seams and gaps) nor does it go after the people who endlessly move goalposts to find a new “problem” to whine “OP” about.

The game has done this for more than ten years.

It hasn’t worked to fix the problem because the problem was never the AA.

It was the underlying game mechanics rapid-fire weapons happen to be good at taking advantage of and also the portion of the playerbase who would rather whine “it’s OP!” than get off their ass and adapt.

So no, I think the SPAAG need to be fully unshackled from every single one of their past nerfs, the actual underlying mechanical flaws of APHE postpen, barrel damage, overabundance of city maps, old 2D armor models autocannons are able to exploit to pen stuff they shouldn’t, and in certain cases bad damage models of specific parts of vehicles making certain AA tankier than they should be.

In other words, fix the broken mechanics and nerf the whiners instead. Because if they’ll never shut the fuck up no matter how many nerfs get applied - why continue listening to them at all in the first place?

I would globally rebuff all APCR postpen, all APDS postpen, fix the underlying bad formulas for calculating APCR and autocannon APDS postpen (I legit fixed the damn things myself in my own spare time between bouts of writing my PhD dissertation with some AI help crunching the math), restore full APCR/APDS belts to all AAs still lacking them, giving all AAs their missing anti-tank rounds, removing doctrinal shell count limits on subcaliber rounds for all high tier AAs, remove the “shell shattered” mechanic entirely, and let the whiners scream as bloody murder as they want while openly threatening to buff AAs more the louder they scream. I would also in several cases adjust multiple AA Battle Ratings downward intentionally so they can butcher tanks.

Nerfing AA never solved the underlying problems. I want to spite the folk who do the unconstructive screaming, then fix what is and always has been actually the problem all along.

The city map is the problem alongside APHE postpen. Not the AA itself.

The AA itself is broken because it has the APHE

Fixing AP damage won’t balance the SPAAGs because it is not the problem with them
Fixing hulls - there is little to fix, and again, considering BR placement, it mainly faces tanks that have weak side and often even frontal armor, that has nothing to do with “armor gaps”

You are addressing issues that have nothing to do with what makes SPAAG a cancer overperforming class.

Making AP more damage won’t prevent APHE spam from SPAAG disintegrating entire cew.
Fixing few armor gaps won’t give an entire BR range worth of tanks and additional armor they physically lack.

Also you didn’t provide a single instance of an actual nerf to the SPAAGs, everybody suffers from cramped maps except some WW2 heavies.

No, it’s not. APHE itself has always been stupid. Cupola shots from regular tank guns are just as stupid. Penetrating a hull corner that has nothing important in its path which sprays sideways into and kills the whole crew compartment is just as stupid.

AA exploit it via fire rate but its hardly unique to AA.

Fixing damage of rounds which have low damage will help the rest of the game alongside removing the chains of stupid nerfs from AA.

The majority of armor models in the game have not been upgraded to volumetric armor, and instead it has been piecemeal. This means the vast majority of tanks still have gaps and holes everywhere that AA can slip rounds through where they damn well shouldn’t.

City maps enable AA to get up close and personal where their speed and fast turret traverse make them so effective. City maps enable AAs which have low-ish pen on their guns to be able to melt sides and rears of common opponents because they can get to point blank with ease in the first place. City maps allow AAs to casually aim at and melt your gun barrel before strolling up to you while you sit there helplessly repairing.

Barrel damage existing as a mechanic at all enables vehicles with low-pen rounds to frontally cripple things that they should by all rights be frontally helpless against. This directly makes AAs “cancerous” as you put it because you sit there dying to a million cuts over a longer time period.

Fixing busted damage models of certain AAs such as the XM246 will make those more killable instead of eating stuff they shouldn’t.

AA melting tin-can cars and early MBTs is exactly what they would and should do on city clusterfuck maps that enable the AAs to get close enough to the MBTs in the first place. There’s nothing to fix here other than your irrational hatred of AA.

Let’s see then:

  • Every single APCR nerf since playable tanks debuted.
  • Saddling multiple AAs with forced mixed belts such as the Kugelblitz, ZSU-37, Type 65, etc (some have been in more recent years reverted but the Kugel still hasn’t)
  • The entire “shell shattered” mechanic is pretty much purpose-built to punish AAs whose anti-armor rounds happen to be APCR.
  • The vast majority of AAs are outright lacking their best anti-armor rounds. Even when the round in question already exists in the live game (such as the BK 3,7 plane cannon having APCR that the Ostwind 1/2 should also get access to). I’ve already done extensive digging on this, and effectively the only AA without missing anti-armor rounds are the 7.5-15mm-sized ones, the Gerat 341 on the Coelian, and the 37mm guns on the Yenisei.
  • All autocannon APDS penetration numbers are artificially neutered via a separate formula from how tank APDS works.
  • All APCR penetration regardless of it being on an autocannon or tank gun is artificially neutered via a separate formula.

Do I really need to go into any more detail?

Just move up the 2S38 to 11.0 and move down the HSTV-L / RDF-LT to 12.3 instead of by 0.7 BRs.

Why did they even move HSTV-L two steps up ?

Didn’t know you could machine gun their ammo, fair point about it not being equal to the HSTVL in this case.

I think people get hung up on the bad experience of it’s fire rate/pen and forget it’s bad mobility, higher profile, and inability to bounce anything.

Only benefit it really has is fire rate and ammo count. Higher profile is nice SOMETIMES but getting ammo racked by a machinegun is a risk I don’t think the HSTVL has to face ever.
