As the title says.
For what reason the BR-540B on the 2S19 has a initial velocity of 610m/s, compared to the 760m/s of the Object 268? This affects the penetration significantly. Its so bad, that you cant pen the Tiger 2 H with it!
175mm pen vs 239mm of pen. Its about on par with the I/SU-152, which is a WW2 tank at 4.0/4.7, which has 600m/s velocity and 171mm of pen. The 2S19 is bad enough, and having this round weaker for no reasons is baffling. Not only it should not be weaker, but since the barrel is much longer it should have higher velocity than the Object 268!
One has made to counter tanks and the other to counter structures.
But… its literally the same round. And the Object 268 is a WW2/post-WW2 era tank and gun. The 2S19 comes about 40 years later.
Same round different purposes. Mostly of the ammunition penetration power comes from the charger it uses. Bit sure, if the 2S19M1/M2 recieves this buff I’m not against considering is just a gigantic barn house.
The breach volume of the 2A64 gun is way bigger than the one of the ML-20, which is on the ISU-152. Which is obvious when comparing the range of the guns and their length.
Tbh I was thinking the same: the breach is bigger and the gun is much longer than the su-152’s, which doesn’t make sense just to add 10m/s of velocity and 4 mm of pen. The APHE and HE on 2s19 weigh the same, so why do they have different velocities?
