28th Infantry Keystone

The 28th Infantry Division, also known as the “Keystone Division,” has a storied history within the Pennsylvania National Guard. Established in 1879, it was initially known as the 7th Division and consisted of National Guard units from Pennsylvania. In 1917, during World War I, the division was redesignated as the 28th Division.

During World War I, the 28th Division played a significant role, distinguishing itself in combat in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, one of the largest and most crucial battles for the American Expeditionary Forces in France. The division’s bravery and tenacity earned it the nickname “Iron Division.” After the war, the 28th Division returned to the United States and was demobilized.
In the interwar period, the division continued its service as part of the National Guard, participating in training exercises and maintaining readiness. When World War II erupted, the 28th Division was mobilized again, serving in the European Theater. The division took part in the Normandy Invasion (D-Day) in 1944, landing on Omaha Beach, and fought in various critical campaigns across France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany.

Post-World War II, the 28th Division remained an integral part of the Pennsylvania National Guard, undergoing reorganizations and participating in training exercises to enhance its capabilities. During the Cold War era, the division was on standby, ready to respond to any potential threats.
In more recent times, the 28th Division played a role in the Global War on Terror following the September 11 attacks in 2001. Its units were deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, conducting various missions in support of combat operations and peacekeeping efforts.
Throughout its history, the 28th Infantry Division has evolved, adapting to changing military landscapes while upholding its legacy of courage, dedication, and service to the nation. The division continues to serve as an essential component of the Pennsylvania National Guard, embodying the spirit of its motto: “First in Defense.”

Gaijin ENT. is no stranger to the 28th infantry. In mid 2022, Gaijins popular FPS “Enlisted” Released a premium squad called the “Colt Monitor squad” which was an element of the 28th Infantry division from the 112th Infantry regiment. their insignia of course, was the Bright Red Keystone. Adding this Decal in game would not just add historical accuracy to players vehicle lineups, but also it can add a nice splash of color to some ground AND air vehicles!

These two pictures are taken off of my phone, unfortunately, no surviving examples of the keystone on tanks exist since they have been painted over, and sent to museums all over the united states; this example however, survives. on the tail and nose of a bell UH-1C

Now another bright red keystone on the tail of this UH-72 Lakota
