Gaijin developers, i have a question: Why does gepard, itpsv leopard, falcon, amx-30 dcaa and more spaa vehicles have apds ammo belts while shilka at the same br has only 4 23mm guns with api-t? It is absolutely unfair because other nations that does not have apds have at least good penetration with aphe, and the 35mm apds can even frontally penetrate IS-3, please add 23mm fapds-t to shilka series.
K add fapds on the Gepard
Can we please stop making spaa into tank destroyers.
The question is whether the available Shilkas got to use any of those FAPDS. AFAIK Soviets never fielded nor produced them. These were other nations, like Poland and Bulgaria (in fact, the fapds you showed is produced by bulgarian arms manufacturer), and devs often add country-specific iterations of vehicles, changing some of their characteristic, including (but not limited to) ammo. So odds of Soviet Shilkas getting FAPDS is low.
I mean, adding this to Gepard will prob launch it higher in BR (quite fair tho)
While I would agree, FAPDS was created to be multi-purpose: these were not specificaly for AT usage but for improvement of AA capabilities, FAPDS should have greater velocity and effective range than AP(IT) rounds yet better damage to aircraft than conventional APDS rounds.
I don’t think Shilkas really need sort of anti-tank rounds. At least, maybe some future bulgarian or polish Shilka should get them, increasing their BRs.
The question is, which country designed that munition and what year is it from?
Because if it’s not a Russian design, it doesn’t have to be in the Russian tech tree, and if it’s from a few years ago, the Br should be upgraded to the ZSU that hypothetically received that munition.
Remove all APDS from all SPAA. Start using them as SPAA, not TD.
We need to add bigger and better-designed maps so that you don’t have to go with a SPAA and when you advance to try to cover your teammates from the planes, the first thing you find is an enemy tank.
Already got their historical 40 round belts of apds
Newer Gepard loadout irl consists of an FAPDS round for extended AA range as main Belt.
These can also be used with great effect against ground targets.
Spoiler
remove APDS and APHE from all SPAA vehicles
include APDS and APHE in all SPAA vehicles.
No. They’re fun to play and not really overpowered.
The Gepard 1A2 upgrade mainly added FAPDS-T as the only ammo type, for both anti-air and ‘emergency’ anti-ground defense use, so it should be added regardless.
Sure why not, give FAPDS to the gepard as well.
I cannot fathom Gepard 1A2 w/ full main belt of FAPDS which are essentially APDS(FS) with better AA capabilities being balanced properly. I don’t think, say, 11.7 will suit Geprad 1A2… unless FAPDS is loaded only in auxiliary belts in lieu of APDS
It is what it is, but removing the ammo which was 99% of the reason behind that upgrade is an equally poor decision.
Such decision was due to a) balancing (no way you get APDS(FS) double-barreled shredder with 550 rds/min balanced unless it peaks the top tier) and b) second, rather more comfortable, option for SPAA before FlaRakRad (there used to be no SPAA between Ozelot and FlaRakRad before addition of Soviet ones)
It’s not APFSDS. It’s an APDS shell with a frangile (F) plastic outer section, which shatters when hitting aircraft and causes huge damage. And some would argue the SAP shell is more powerful against tanks since you can hit the edge of a cupola and still get huge damage.
We have Strela 10. This would provide a gun SPAA that can counter helis better than the Gepard and can still engage fast, low-level aircraft.
I wouldn’t mind making the Shilka into a tank rapid fire tank destroyer.
I might be tripping balls, but the PMD-055 shot in the section looks hella like APFSDS
IIRC Strela came after Gepard 1A2 was released. At that moment and time, devs chose the easiest way of slapping existing Stingers on existing model of Gepard with little visual differences aside from AA mounts for rockets
