Danish M4A3E4 Sherman
Short description
The M4A3E4 was the first official tank of the Danish army, and was used for training purposes. The tank is the hull of a M4A3(105)VVSS, with the turret of a 75mm Sherman with a 76mm M1A1C cannon.
History
After WW2, the Danish army stood without any armoured vehicles. In the year 1949, Denmark entered NATO, and was qualified to be part of American MDAP (Mutual Defence Aid Program).
As part of MDAP, Denmark were given 3 choices of tanks, the M4A3 Sherman, M47 and M48. Denmark favoured the M48, however Denmark was not seen as an as frontline nation, and therefore the USA instead gave Denmark the Sherman.
In April 1952, Denmark received the delivery of 8 Sherman tanks, officially for training. The shipment of the Sherman led to some friction, since they were only really interested in the more modern tanks, and therefore Denmark then instead asked for the M47, however other countries such as Korea, Italy and France were in greater need. Instead the US offered to pay for the delivery of the British Centurion Mk III, which were accepted.
The Sherman was the first official tank of Denmark, and were used to train the first tank crews of the Danish army. The tanks were didn’t recive new camouflage and were never repainted, however they were made identifiable by big large white numerals on the hull and turret.
In 1953 the first delivery of the Centurion Mk III was received, and the Sherman was relegated for multiple more background roles until 1955, when they were marked for discarding. 5 of the tanks were intended to be used as range targets, however because a ban on shooting at hard targets,
Their future was changed and they were instead used as training targets around on the Danish military exercise areas for molotov cocktail training.
The tanks themselves were originally built as M4A3(105)VVSS during the War, in 1950 they were then rebuild. As part of the rebuilding process, the turret was replaced with the turret of a 75mm Sherman, and the 75mm M3 cannon was replaced with a 76mm M1A1C cannon.

Pretty neat, ive actually seen it in real life, they have one over in Oksbøl iirc there probably a few other museums with them but thats just the one ive seen.

Tbf from what i remember the 3/4 we have in game is fake. They never put the short 75mm on the M4A3 chassis and it was a 105 originally. I could be wrong, its been a while since i looked at its history.
Give it to sweden, they need everything they can get.

Eh, honestly given 5.x has no fighters and a eh spaa they need actual aircraft to bolster the linup which at 5.7 theres 1 good tank and 2 horrible tanks that are food for basically anyone. If added at 5.0 it could be a decent addition

surprisingly Denmark wasn’t as molested as France and Poland was by Germany in WWII.
Tbf we wanted better tanks but when asking to get new vehicles we were denied or they were far too expensive. Besides after WW2 people would need to push through Germany to get us and we set Mines (small Lego bricks) nobody could invade unless they wish to suffer true pain.
Realistically iirc it was a monetary problem for the most part and us not wanting to get into war if possible. Not really a unique trait to us during that time tbf.
LOL. I mean, why didn’t they get panzers like Finland did or get something from Britain or France/make their own tank? Why wait till the 50’s?
Ground wasn’t a focus, money problems were huge, we were basically taken by Germany and left with nothing. When we were free after the war we had scraps of German vehicles which we repurposed to remove mines and other German military defenses. Air and Sea were a more important focus after the war and Germany didn’t seem to be as big of a worry as air and naval vehicles seemed to be more of a requirement as via ground invasion Germany would be the only group to worry about.
Essentially having to pull our economy and what remains we had out of the mud and it took a while.
I’m kind of tired of Shermans and the Copy Paste. It’s not my favorite, and I don’t really see why it should be added as Sweden already has a good number of tanks at that BR range.

What good tanks do they have? Cause im gonna be real thats a hard take to accept at face value given ive played nearly every nations 5.x lineups and sweden is easily one of the worst especially in uptiers.
T34-85 and M/42 DT are the only usable tanks, 74 and PVK are both too slow and poorly armored while having cannons comparable to mediums and heavies at their BR making them having no advantages over their opponents.
I know. God Please Fix naval and stop addnig Ctrl C+V tanks for wallet warriors and actually make the game playable.

The Comet, the T-34-85, the Strv m/42 DT, the Strv 74. Those are decent at the very least. You also have access to the PT, PVKV, USH 204, and LVKV. All in the 5.x range.
This vehicle isn’t exceptional, and especially not exceptionally better than anything mentioned above. Their is no reason for it, and no need for it. I am very against Copy and Paste especially in this setting because of how much it isn’t needed.
