“130 Gruppo Autonomo Aerosiluranti” coats of arms.

History.

Not much is known about the 130th Gruppo Autonoma Torpedo Bombers. The proabilmetne group was born together with its “cousin” the 132nd Gruppo Autonomo Aerosiluranti. Both groups were born in the early years of the Second World War, when the Regia Aeronautica began to create the first torpedo bomber units. Both groups were equipped with SM.79 and later with SM.84, and carried out various torpedoing actions against English ships (such as the battleship Nelson). After 8 September 1943 the group “passed” under the banner of the Republican Air Force of the RSI, but had very limited actions compared to before. At the end of the war the squadron was dismantled, while the 132nd continued to exist, albeit modified in role and size.

The coats of arms.

The coat of arms represents a bearded pirate with a bandaged eye, a hook instead of a hand, a wooden leg astride a torpedo. This drawing is surrounded by a circle with the writing “130° Gruppo Autonomo Aerosiluranti” and “Sotto a chi tocca” (the group’s motto).
