Yokosuka P1Y1 Model 11 Otsu

Oh yes, please, take my absolute +1! I need more P1Y1s

We need more P1Y

The technical sketch says “Type 3 13mm machine gun”. I believe the gun used was not the MG131 type 2, but the Browning type 3.

There is a slight difference in caliber, but note that the IJN called both Type 2 and Type 3 “13mm”.

How about the night fighter version?

+1 would be great in a folder

The Yokosuka P1Y1-S and P1Y2-S are in the pipeline. I’m making suggestions alphabetically and for now I’m stuck on M along with Mitsubishi.

Daam how many are on the list yet to be suggested?

Honestly, too many. There are about ~70 or more possible aircraft suggestions for Japan alone. Plus a ton of suggestions for weapons, ground vehicles, helicopters, and profile icons.

+1, but I don’t really know why would you want an exact same plane in almost every metric but with different dorsal turret armament as another plane. If I was deciding how to implement it, I’d simply put it as a sort of researchable modification like it is with Ki-43 fixed armament. We have things like Ki-67 divided into two separate aircraft, but I don’t think there is point to do the same here, modification thingy would be much more helpful to save time and money, while not hurting BR placement at all (looking at Ki-67-Is).

I found material on P1Y1b.

Gun Mount Designation: Provisional Type 4 13mm Twin Upper Mount
Gun Type: Type 3 13mm Machine Gun ×2
Ammo Capacity: 250 rounds

The ammunition count for the 13mm rounds is not specified as being per gun or total.
Considering that the standard P1Y1 carries 225 rounds of 20mm ammunition, it seems reasonable to assume 250 rounds per gun (total 500 rounds).

Additionally, it is noted that a variant existed where the forward gun of this P1Y1b was replaced from a 20mm to a Type 2 13mm MG, and this was designated the P1Y1c (radar was also added).
When implementing this, it would be good to allow the choice of either the 20mm or Type 2 13mm for the forward gun.

That’s very interesting. I haven’t heard of the P1Y1c having radar. Although it’s a logical move to better avoid American aircraft and detect American ships.

I don’t know the specifics of the radar, but since the P1Y is fundamentally a bomber, I believe it’s a radar for searching for surface targets.
However, since Japanese radars in WT don’t function and are merely cosmetic (like the B6N2a or Ki-67 otsu), this one will likely be the same.

The Japanese Navy primarily used the H-6 radar, which allowed for ship detection (used, for example, in the G4M2) and aircraft detection (used, for example, in the J1N1-S or P1Y2-S). But yes, in War Thunder, Japanese radars don’t work.

Would like more P1Y1s, but they really need to have the field mods for forward-firing cannons included.

The current P1Y1 has great performance, but terrible turret coverage and bomb loads.

Changing the subject slightly, there is a variant of the P1Y1 where the rear machine gun was changed from a 20mm to a Type 2 13mm, and this is called the P1Y1a.
I didn’t think it was significant enough to warrant separating the models under “Suggestions,” so I submitted it as a report.

Rear gun

  • P1Y1 (model 11) : Type 99 20mm Mk.1 cannon
  • P1Y1a (model 11 Ko) : Type 2 13mm MG
