XM800T: Brave Prowess

It was the developer’s decision not to use Janes as the source, and I personally think it was a very unfortunate decision.

I mean, I can sort of understand where they’re coming from, but only when dealing with certain topics.

Jane’s would of course be dubious in cases where you’re dealing with highly classified information, main battle tank armor for instance. Or if Jane’s claims an outlandish figure that disagrees with every other source.

But when it comes to relatively mundane things like this, that’s when I think it should be allowed.

Oh by the way, what do you think of the LRF source? (That it’s supposedly integrated into the sight module)

Is there any way that we could move the XM800T from a very meh 7.7 light tank to a very capable 5.7-6.3 SPAA? Maybe just don’t give it ahistorical DM63?

It’s not like the stabilizer adds much to a 20mm autocannon.

I don’t see a separate hole for the laser rangefinder in the sight made by Delco.

Also, Jane’s World Armored Fighting Vehicles only mentions a laser rangefinder on the XM800W

In that case I find it strange that such a shortcoming wasn’t reported on more.

But fair enough.

LRF probably won’t change how it plays regardless, so I won’t lose any sleep over it. That said, it’s a mystery I’d like to get to the bottom of some day.

Thanks for the insightful discussion, I’m looking forward to see this machine on live 👍

Can’t wait for this little guy to come out. Hopefully it will be like the old R3 days. Side note, it’s crazy they’ve now moved the R3 all the way up to 6.0.

With the addition of the XM800T, does that mean that there is a possibility that we could see the XM800W and the XM808 “Twisters” in the future?

I REALLY hope so! I think they look so cool!

I assume it’s too old to have any thermals?

No integrated thermal sight AFAIK

However, this table from ARMOR magazine shows that “handheld thermal viewer” was one of the items that could/would be carried in the scout vehicles during testing.

armor magazine scout equipment

We have regular binoculars in-game, but for this to be modeled we would probably need a “thermal binocular” game mechanic first.

Edit: This probably refers to “Handheld Thermal Viewer, AN/PAS-7” which was developed for use by reconnaissance and combat elements of the US Army.

Yooooo! I found this 1974 training film showing AN/PAS-7, the same year as ASRV trials. Here’s a clip:

Absolutely useless. I wouldn’t take it out in anything above rank 2.

Its not, once you get APDS round its a monster. It does better in uptieres than downtiers

It’s 66mm of pen at close range.
I still think that it’s absolutely useless.

I mean, it’s fast enough that you should be able to get close to most enemies, and if you can’t pen them you can run away. It’s also high enough BR that there a lot of light skinned vehicles so it can pen most things

God tier vehicle, I got 2 nukes with the wiesel when using it at 8.3, and the 800 is a better fighting rat

“Water jet thrust” o.O what’s that?

Edit:

Ooooo I see, and I didn’t even realize it was an amphibious tank! I wasn’t gonna mess with the XM800T before, but with these changes I think I gotta get that thing spaded!

It can penn almost anything in 8.0 and higher except Russian T- tanks

My first nuke in the XM800T

I’m not saying that the vehicle is crazy good (it’s OK in my opinion) just that the the stars aligned and everything worked out in my favor.

There happened to be lots of lightly armored vehicles, and I had a number of lucky close calls.

Playing XM800T you definitely get that survival horror feeling, as most vehicles are immune to your 20mm from the front (some even from the sides)

If you mess up your attack, or if the enemy knows your location then you’re basically dead unless you manage to (bravely) run away.
