Unfortunately I cannot bug report using datamine values, but it is very clear that from @zarusoba10’s theory it seems to hold that as long as neutralGearRatio is around the same value as the highest gear ratio, in this case would be gear 1, it should perform almost as intended.
Let me see if I can get a video comparison on this.
User mission/modded content, it’s work in progress
The Al Khalid is really weird… It’s extremely responsive, to the point where it can’t even keep up it’s speed while turning. You can make a 180 degree turn from full speed lol It feels like the old handling model even though it should have the regen steering
I got really surprised when it just turned around at the beginning
Sorry—I did say you could just use the same value as 1st gear, but that was really just for setting a decent placeholder.
If you want to get the value exactly right, you should gather data on the tank’s turning radius and find the optimal setting by measuring the radius within a user mission.
I believe I noticed something similar with the XM800T, it was so responsive that I almost thought I was on the live server. Mashing down A or D made it turn very hard, but tapping gently did show the regenerative steering working as intended.
Hey, I don’t want to put too much work on you but maybe you could make a post on Reddit telling the people what we have found? I’ll post a few videos of the vehicles currently working perfectly (M41, VT5, Scimitar, etc.) I just don’t have the time anymore to make a big post today :D
Then it appears we’ve got a BIG part of the solution and it’s just a single number… We need @Stona_WT to see this!
Regenerative Steering must come, but fleshed out and polished. The ONLY reason why many people oppose it is because they dislike the CURRENT iteration, which is flawed.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT REGENERATIVE STEERING: The current iteration on the Dev Server is FLAWED and NOT representative of the potentially final, fleshed out product. In this video, you see BOTH tanks having Regenerative Steering, but with a different neutralGearRatio value: 12 (Dev) and 9 (Live).
Many people have complained that Regenerative Steering, specially on Leopard 2, reduces the turning radius way too much, hindering short range/low speed agility.
However, this is NOT an inherent drawback of Regenerative Steering; with only this ONE value changed, you can see how much mobility improves.
Hell, Dev Server’s iteration even drastically hinders pivot turning even though it shouldn’t, proving that it’s a faulty value!

For this reason, we need to work to IMPROVE the mechanic, NOT ditch it!
People so passionate about this possible feature that they are fixing and tweaking it on the fly right in this thread. That tells alot about how actually anticipated this feature was.
