The F14A used for AMRAAMs testing had avionics and radar systems similar to the F14D, so technically, it could also use AMRAAMs. The U.S. Navy was already phasing out the Tomcat, so the project was never goes any further. There’s technically nothing stopping Gaijin from giving the F14D 120As, while we at it, gave it JDAM too.
There’s no evidence that the Iranian F14’s R27 were ever usable, yet Gaijin added them anyway.
Separation test doesn’t mean they can use AMRAAMs.
From NAVAIR manual for pilot/rio and ground crew, there are literally no mention about AMRAAMs. If they could use that, manual should mention about HUD/VDI and HSD symbols at the least.
i mean the AIM-120A was a concept for the F-14D, Other jets in the game have concept missiles that they never had so i really dont see why they dont just add the F-14D or just give the F-14B the AIM-120A and bump it to 13.7
Exactly, thats what i mean by Gaijin has aleady addded missiles to jets that dont even have them so why give the F-14B it’s real ordinace. The F-14B is currently unplayable brah
Tbh, if gajin sticks to not adding the F-14D or just giving the F-14B it’s real weapons, I dont see any need for the F-14B to be at 13.0, its buns and not any better than some 12.7 jets.
There’s a big debate regarding historical and balance issues in War Thunder, but there are specific cases, like the F-14, that can have an almost obvious solution:
Vehicles that are part of a branch are understood to have their first variant added to the game with a certain armament, but as we all know, over the years the same variant acquired different armaments. In these cases, Gaijin uses “Early” and “Late.”
In other cases, there are historical errors that are corrected by including a more advanced variant (almost like the case of the Netz “Mod” and others).
But there are many vehicles that will always have the problem of perhaps never having their historical characteristics, sadly (for example, unique event vehicles) that aren’t part of a branch.
That’s why I believe we must resolve this debate, and I always propose maintaining historical accuracy and adjusting the game’s balance based on that.
