Why does it seem the M1 abrams is extremely underwhelming?

30minutes Ago, and dont you realize the T80 has the ability to go down hill 😳! Also, you centered it over the center of the turret cheek, the problem is, nobody ever shoots their and more than often its not on level ground im fighting. I dont see the problem with adding more armor if according to you the t80 cant pen anyway

tbh the hull and turret(less so) likely underperform from some newish data

If you somehow let a T-80 climb over a hill and kill you with its slow ass gun handling its deserved

Genuinely what are you on about it doesn’t matter where you shoot the cheek frontally it cannot be penned the entire cheek is 660-760mm
you know your stats are pretty indicative of this delusiom right now

The first image pens because the shell hits the turret cheek but travels into the weaker mantlet armour

not sure what the second image is going for, I’ve never seen MiGs firing Invar missiles

Its the angle most times I get killed by T80 at

The only reason it happens is because all the Fucking premiums dying within 2minutes then leaving me and 2 other teammates to deal with all them. In my opinion it is Gijins fault for flooding top teir with premiums. People for some reason want to buy the Abrams.

So you’re admitting to being so blind you cant see a T-80 slightly to the right of you

Have you tried using hull down and listening for engine sounds

I do, but my headphones are cheap and I cant aford new ones, so my spacial audio has been gone. Thanks for suggestions tho.

It can be penned via DM53 or a stronger APFSDS than 3BM60 (funnily enough Object 292’s round can pen right turret cheek without angling the turret too). Leo 2A7s and Strvs have the benefit of the extra composite armour on the sides and the front (the wedges), making it very difficult to penetrate at the same angle as this camera position (although you can go through the side armour near the end of the side of the turret, where there is no composite armour.

Was fighting an AIM in my Leclerc and accidentally shot here - thought I was dead for sure until I saw “Target Destroyed” lol

Good point

He’s missing the fact that the 105mm Abrams don’t spall as much as 120mm DM23 that the Leopard 2A4 gets (hence nobody is complaining), but I agree with mostly everything else he says.

erm guys the abrams is underwhelming and underperforming gaijin pls buff
why is a t80 able to pen my turret cheek from this angle? russian bias game. I get killed from this angle all the time!!

I see people make this claim all the time.

Yet somehow this claim is never backed up with any evidence.
From what I can see, the spalling for both shells is identical:

I’m guessing you’re right.
Can you try it out with other armour pieces? (Such as the right turret cheek of M1 Abrams.)
From what I can understand, barely penning an armour plate (which the M774 round tends to do more so than DM23 due to DM23 having better penetration) leads to less spall, which may be the reason why people believe that 105mm M774 does less damage (spall included) than 120mm DM23, and not that 120mm DM23 actually does more spalling.

Transferring here.

There were multiple weight-saving measures throughout the M1A2 variants. All this is saying is that the M1A2 through SEPv2 have similar DU turret and hull armor.

That doesn’t negate my argument, though. This still applies:

That’s under the assumption that they didn’t use DU hulls, which is unfounded.
