Why does Germany's win rate fall off a cliff after 7.7? A look from someone who actually plays Germany

literally nothing else at 7.7 for a medium/ heavy tank

Well the E-100 exists but I’m not gonna tell somebody to spend two grand on a pixel tank, but the Leopard 1 is in the Panzer IV/Panther line so everybody grinds it, get that and you get a good gun, good mobility, and decent survivability with stuff like the M48 as support. The M48 and Maus are simply not good main vehicles but do serve as backup. The maus is one of my defaults dealing with lightly armored TDs and SPAA at close range because of the 75, but the Leo is my main. Also don’t forget that the Tiger 2s get pen that can still compete at that BR, and with the HE filler and precision at range they’re also one of my main backups.

This is my primary 8.0 GRB lineup, and if you want to play arcade just forget the heli. It isn’t exceptional, but it gets the job done, especially as 7.3-8.3 is very much a BR bracket that people quickly grind through and don’t play as a main. And if you’re wondering about the wonky crew levels the M48 crew here is my primary Tiger 2(H) and Leopard 1A5 crew so it gets high level and the Maus crew is my T72M1 and Leopard 2A4 crew so I play it a lot. The Wiesel one is only high level because that’s my crew for the Tiger 2(P).

Self-evidently this is completely false. I have 450+ matches on the Maus, positive win rate and a K/D slightly over 3. Throw in a handful of nukes too. Is it meta? No. But it’s simply false to say that it’s almost impossible to do well, come on. Let’s be serious here.

The drop on the coax is no issue if you use a dedicated sight. The best HEAT round decimates light vehicles and if correctly aimed can kill the crew members of things you wouldn’t expect (M46, T-54, even IS-3). You can use it to track and barrel people or throw smoke in people’s faces.

It’s very map dependent for sure and it requires a lot of patience to play, but it is absolutely competitive at 7.7.

Agreed. I ended up playing the Tiger II Sla at 9.3 for a lark with a friend and still ended up with a positive K/D lmao. At 7.7/8.0 it’s still an excellent second/third spawn thanks to the gun.

Personally when playing 7.7 I use the PzH 2000, the PAK Puma and the Ru 251 as foils to the Maus, they complement it very well. And the Tiger II/Jagdtiger as backups.

The real problem imho is that while a good lineup for experienced players, it’s just a bit of a noob trap for inexperienced players, you’re taking a bunch of very situational vehicles for the BR and sticking them together to fill a puzzle, while inexperienced players obviously do best with versatility. Also several of these are either premiums (Ru) or lootbox/market gated (the PAK Puma) and just having Maus + PzH 2000 is not great lineup depth for rookies.

The less I say about the Patton the better lmao. Never could stand it.

Now you are really really stretching it

Congrats, you just precisely defined the problem

I never claimed otherwise when it comes to 7.7 Germany tbh. As a lineup overall it is much inferior to German 6.7 for example.

Which is also no longer that good

And that, as previously established, is where we hold different views 😁

Because I never played anything after 7.7 germany :D

For situational… see flat out bad.

Im.grinding the last 150k.RP for.the t72.
Just going to use the swap swap trick so i can use peak.german lineups 3.3- 4.3/ tigers for the remaining RP

Will play some t72 and KPZ70.and call.it a day on the nation.
Leopards are just not it- i do twice as bad in the 9.3 than XMs at same BR.

GJ really need to look at the full tree. Removing the 7.0s was a mistake when theres tiger 2 at 6.7 and nothing of any note around that BR or higher that makes it worth grinding germany for. Paywalled light tank at 4.7 with no alternative also isnt the best.

Basically buy tiger 1 pack. Buy premium tiger 2 and you experience all germany has to offer

I strongly disagree with your assessment and I think we have very different notions of what makes a vehicle “bad” and what is “worth grinding” (alien concept to me), but we’ve been down this road before and there’s no point retreading old ground and rehashing arguments I’ve already made.

Worth grinding is a good unique vehicle or if a copy paste something worth that it has over others

For eg. Im grinding german air ATM…im TT in alll but germany and italy as even though i have the others…they have the best sabre and mirage in the game

While this looks playable, I would strongly advise to swap the tiger II for the DF 105 and the wiesel for Raketenautomat. While they still both are not that easy to handle and get used to, once you get used to them they are both very strong vehicles. Playing the maus in a lineup higher than its BR is asking for trouble since you then uptier it even more than you already would if it was in a 7.7 lineup.

Also having a 8.3 heli in the lineup uptiers the entire lineup just for the chance to bring a admittedly very strong heli for 8.3…but those “starter helis” arent that strong to begin with (considering they are quite hard to use, very map dependent and dont have lots of ordinance in case of the alouette) and usually automatically dead if any plane wants u dead. Do not uptier the entire lineup for one cas asset. You will play up to 9.3 uptiers with a maus and a Tiger 2. Just for the chance to get into the heli. With an otherwise 8.0 lineup that is already not the most meta lineup compared to what other nations can bring. Pls don’t.

Play the alouette at 8.3 or 8.7 and the maus in a 7.7 lineup. Tiger 2 while u can make the gun work is just too slow at 8.3 now…

And, if you can, expert your crews. youre putting yourself at a disadvantage to begin with not doing that. in general (especially for tanks where it influences the reload) it gives 25% better capabilities to lots of crucial “stats”. Gun handling. Reload. Survivability. Acceleration.

I would go for a lineup of: Leo 1, M48a2c, Arado 234-c3, Wiesel you can if u rly like the playstyle, Raketenautomat and DF105.

If you want a lineup built around the alouette go: Leo 1, M48G A2, Raketenautomat, Rakjpz or PzH2000 or uptier it to 8.7

Fair enough, it’s not impossible to do well with, but it takes both a very specific playstyle and skill level that many players don’t have/reach, especially at it’s just about the slowest tank in the game, so it’s only really practical in a few situations. It can’t really compete that well in an uptier, 8.7 will utterly annihilate it, but in a downtier you can do pretty well with the right map, early position, and unlucky enemies. Also it took my nearly 2300 hours to get around to editing some basic files for custom kill messages, long after I got the Maus, and I’m the person who has designed and run a system for 13 autonomous Minecraft servers so I wouldn’t say a lot of people are super equipped to find the right sight and put it in the game files.

Exactly this. It’s an iconic tank that can do well on certain parts on certain maps as long as its not uptiered and faces somewhat enemies that dont know how to deal with it or are in a bad vehicle to do so.

For me, its main problem is its speed and how sluggish it is. And I’m not doing bad in it, far from it as much as I’m concerned. I also like playing it. But still: You will always arrive late to the positions or where the fight is, relying on your allies to get to the establishing frontline and at least hold some positions. Once youre there you rely quite a lot on them playing around you, as in, playing more passive, covering your sides, going for enemies as soon as they disabled you and try to get around to finish you. When half your team is already dead before you arrive you just get cornered and swarmed, guns shot out and theres nothing you can do. You always have to disengage way earlier should u possibly get overwhelmed because of its horrible mobility (though the 20kph reverse and smokeshells for the secondary can be a saving grace). In general you need to read the battle way more early than in anything else because ou just cant react to quick pushes of lots of enemy players, and you dont want them to suddenly appear on your sides flat on. In an uptier, where more and more tanks get high penning rounds and are increasingly quick keeping them away from your flank gets increasingly impossible and you’re entirely at the mercy of your own team to get anything done.

You also cant just zoom over to another part of the map to contest another cap, so enemy teams reacting and communicating where you are have a quite easy time immobilizing you, flanking you or just avoiding you entirely. Its just not a vehicle to solo influence the match unless the enemy team throws countless clueless players at you that struggle to take you out while your team finishes them while trying.

Its just one of those vehicles that is very specialized, it can do very well K/D wise and holding map control. But lots of kills and holding a spot behind the middle of the map alone basically never will win you the match. If you were in a team of maus only vs a regular team youd be fighting for the map at around 20% of distance covered from your spawn. Enemy team starts at 80% of map control and you need to take everything of that back.

The reasons I don’t do that are simply because, I’m just not a light tank person. It’s not that I don’t like fast flankers, it’s just that I tunnel vision slightly, meaning in a good medium/heavy tank I survive longer because I can take hits. This means I haven’t ground the light tank line very far, eventually I will but I just haven’t. The Raketenautomat is good, but has the same issue with poor armor and I don’t usually like super high drop rockets. The heli is just in there if I want CAS, for me the Leopard 1 stands up just fine at 8.3 and can even perform at 9.3 with DM12, and the Maus is simply in there if I get a downtier or need something that can break through an enemy line, even if I die.

Fully understandable, it is a much more fast paced, stressful gameplay. Just be aware that the best players value mobility and reload way more than armor for a reason.
But ofc, you dont have to. I value everyone that loves specific vehicles, or playstyles that might not be the most meta or sweatlord playstyle. Variety always is better for fun and interesting matches, otherwise everyone would be playing the same 5 vehicles over and over…boring af if you have my match numbers.

But still, i want to point out this: The higher you uptier your maus because of other assets in the same lineup the less likely a match on 7.7 or even a downtier will be. And, as you already realized, playing the maus in uptiers is less than ideal. Enemies in general get more mobile and more enemies will have ammo to pen you. It definitely is not a tank you want to have in a lineup higher than 7.7. But with your lineup youre uptiereing it to 8.3, for a heli that (as it sounds) you only occasionally play if you feel like it. Which is fine. But then why not take the heli out? You can easily put the alouette in a 8.7 lineup. But the maus in a 8.3 lineup is a problem.

Its perk is its mobility, being able to shoot hull down. The rockets have barely any drop…its gotta be comparable to conventional rounds like aphe. But fair enough, it takes getting used to and its gun handling is much more of a problem than it not having armor. Half the vehicles at this br dont. Because you dont you are as mobile as you are.

I also dislike multi gun setups where the scope is in the center, for instance the Gepard. It makes the guns really hard to aim precisely, and especially when you have limited ammo like with any sort of rockets I don’t like it that much. I also just don’t play 7.3-8.7 much, my default is 1.7, 4.0, 6.7, 9.3, and 10.7.

Which is uhh not very much at all?

You do realize the average top speed for vehicles like almost doubles above 8.0 right? Like seriously with less armor and better engines for some vehicles, yes it’s about the same, but for most they receive a pretty good upgrade.
