Well there was HMS Canada who was a repossessed Brazilian battleship.
Of the Indefatigable class there is HMS Indefatigable, HMS New Zealand and HMAS Australia, so whilst New Zealand and Canada have ships named after them, they were still comissioned into the Royal Navy, whereas the HMAS Australia was comissioned into the Royal Australian Navy making her unique in this aspect.
Bonus fact
Though there is some indication the G-3 Battlecruisers might have been commissioned into the RAN, RNZN, RCN and SANS (South African Naval Service) as those self-governing dominions funded them alongside the UK. If not each would be permanently stationed in a base in each of those countries.
Ran is my weakest knowledge but I’m pretty sure our carrier operation was post ww2 but I could be wrong.
Found this.
As the navy took on an even greater role, it was expanded significantly and at its height the RAN was the fourth-largest navy in the world, with 39,650 personnel operating 337 warships, but no active submarines. A total of 34 vessels were lost during the war, including three cruisers and four destroyers.
I see so it looks like RAN dealing with Carriers started after the war.
Canada wanted people trained in operating carriers so the escort carriers HMS Nabob and HMS Puncher became RCN ships in all but name only as I said they couldn’t be legally transferred to the RCN.
Trading info like this I find nice as it allows me to learn more about the ANZACs as I don’t know much about them.
Yeah for sure. If your so inclined watch a great movie called Danger Close. It’s about Aussies ( with help of NZ artillery support) in Vietnam, true story of the battle of long tan.
As for the carriers we adopted 2 I was reading with a third to replace them for vtol capability but Brits cancelled the sale and we reduced our naval size to eliminate carriers. They cost too much in manpower and resources combined with the necessary support vessels just to escorts it.
We have been modernising consistently and growing at our fastest pace since ww2 if I remember rightly. AUKUS will replace our aging submarines and bring us into the nuclear club with a few American nuclear subs in the Interum.
