Why are there so few clipped wing spitfires in game?

They arent calling it an LF.

Clearly labled Mk.IXe (CW). The basic F prefix was rarely used as it was the default.

Which means it’s an LF Mk9 as that’s its capabilities.
Thanks for arguing my point for me.

Read what i wrote, not what you want to read.

Irl Mk.IXe(CW) =/= LF.MK.IXe as it completely omits the rather important engine change. If its an LF in game it should be called that.

Maybe you are fine with misleading information but in sure most players would welcome the cards matching the models.

Your post contradicted your previous post.
“Obviously the label Mk.IXe CW includes the [L]F prefix despite it not being there.”
“Not including the [L]F prefix is misleading.”

Neither of those quotes are of you, by the by. Stick to a position.
Either way both of those positions are wrong, just the 1st one is less wrong as that’s an opinion on a fact rather than the latter being a false claim of malice.

@LeonDasPro
No one’s quoting you nor misrepresenting you.
Please stop misrepresenting other peoples’ posts with false claims.

If the quotes aren’t you, which they aren’t as I said they aren’t, then they aren’t representing you to begin with thus cannot misrepresent you.

also you did quote leon and also… i may be wrong but he seems to be talking about the F prefix is rarely used and the screen uses LF while not using it on the other one

LF and F are different prefixes

The deliberate use of “…” implies quoting, just without using the inbuilt function, especially in context with the preceding sentence. Why use it otherwise?

Spitfires of later mk had universal wing. Every single one could be changed at the airfield for the mission demand. Clipped wing gave better role rate but reduced the climb rate and higher altitude performance. Then there was the extended wing tips for high altitude performance but I believe mostly used for reconnaissance duties.

These weren’t unique planes with one wing or another.

No clipped wing spits?

We need more and more spitfires.
Both with cw/without cw. XD

Is there any chance of Brit having FR Mk.XIVe as a regular variant in Tech Tree, too?

Just like JA37DI does…?

yea see i was wrong there i admit it, idk how this works to edit messages or anything, so my point more so changed to why isnt there more, i never really grinded the spits too much so i never knew any had clipped… because well theres 1 foldered one and thats about it for britian

Lets remember to stay on topic. This thread got a little off track for a moment.

sorry!

I think it could be done similarly to Winterketten/Ostketten on some German Pz.IVs

With clipped wing you’d get better roll rate and higher speed at cost of some climb rate and service ceiling
I think that is reasonable tradeoff.

Didn’t this just give them the edge at lower speeds to outturn ME-262s and otherwise worsend their flight performance?

If anything, it was more because of concern about the 190

Source - A test flight was arranged by the Air Fighting Development Unit at RAF Duxford, comparing a standard wing Spitfire Mk V with the new modified version at various heights up to 25,000 feet. It was discovered that the clipped Spitfire wing made the aircraft 5mph faster at 10,000 feet and slightly faster at 25,000 feet, but with better acceleration across the board. In a dive, the clipped wing aircraft could pull away from the standard version and in a dogfight, the improved roll rate meant it could shake off the pursuing unmodified Spitfire. Climb performance wasn’t affected much and there was no noticeable change to the take-off and landing performance.

the me262 didnt enter service in 1941 when this started happening… if you believe the IWM (which recently have been on a uh… bad streak of wrong answers) then it was due to the threat of the FW190

also based on the fact the me262 struggled with destroying a photo recon mosquito i dont think britian would change the spitfire to tackle a plane it probably only saw a small handful of times and was well… fast and sh*t

Ah right. I read some article a while back. It was the FW190 then. But it is funny that they did it for any German plan, let alone the FW190s, since they turn like crap in game haha
