To be honest, i wouldnt mind a mig 25 and i do not play russia.

But most players in this thread seem to over glorify the Mig 25, it didnt have guns (so dont compare it to the F 104 because the F104 has guns).
It wont get to mach 2.8 without being at extreme altitudes.
It wont get a PD radar, it just had SRC radar.
To be honest it would be an F15A without the gun basically, and with less missiles, also, the thrust weight ratio of the Mig 25 is terrible (between 0.4 and 0.8 T/W compared to 0.9 and 1.4 for the F15A depending on fuel amount), so it would be basically like an aardvark, maybe the F variant, high speed, but terrible acceleration, nowhere near the mig21, the mig21 accelerates a lot faster.

I dont mind russia having the Mig 25, but it would clearly be pretty bad specially if its given a historically accurate BR like 12.7 since the F15A is 2 years older at 13.0

Depend on variant. PD and BM variants are pretty decent ones. MiG-25PD have pulse doppler radar and compared to F-104 (except for the newer Italian ones) it have good missiles. MiG-25P would not be very useful but can have some use in simulator so we can get it as squadron.

Sounds interesting, it would be like an F111A (similar acceleration) with PD radar and SARH missiles

Ill admit it could be interesting a mig25PD maybe at 12.7-12.3

Remember the F104 has a much higher thrust/weight ratio, so the Mig25PD would be significantly slower at getting to speed compared to the F104. In the F104, turning doesnt bleed energy almost, in the F111, turning bleeds all your energy and makes you a sitting duck. So it would not be advised to try turning in the Mig25PD, you would just choose a straight line, and get targets through PD radar and fire and hope for a hit. After all, it was intended to intercept bombers.

Edit: Also noticed you mentioned the Mig25BM. That one is interesting but has 1 problem, at most i can only see it as an event vehicle. First, both weapons (the only ones it can carry) are not implemented in game, one is an anti radiation missile which seems to be taking longer to develop than i would like (but could be an interesting plane for russia when Anti radiation is added in game), the other missile is a cruise anti ship missile, while really interesting, Gaijin tends to add planes with anti ship missiles as premium or event vehicles. And you would only have literally 1 weapon with it.

Also, i forgot to mention, you compare it to the F104, but this one (all variants of the Mig25) have no guns.

Though they could add maybe an event/squadron vehicle mig25BM and line mig25PD maybe at 12.7.

Yep MiG-25 was developed primarly to intercept enemy bombers but its tasks then expanded to include intercepting enemy fighters. Thats why it got 4x R-60M + improved R-40D with seekers from R-24.

In case of MiG-25BM it have Kh-58U anti radiation missiles as bonus in case when those types of missiles will come. I dont know about cruise missiles but if you have some info about it please post it. It can be very valuable information. Main armament will be 8x FAB-500 (many sources mention up to 10x FAB-500). Also there are informations about 4x R-60M for self defense.

Both MiG-25PD and BM should come with KDS-155 so 60 flares/chaffs.

Exactly as you said, not sure about the FABs, im just basing myself on wikipedia. But according to it, BM variant has KH-58 (antirad as you said) and KH-31 (Anti Ship missile, its not a Cruise Missile, that was a mistake i made in my previous message).

I said that about only Squadron/event vehicles having ship missiles because i believe only the A6 and Tornado have variants in Warthunder with Anti-Ship missiles, but to be honest, i now remember the F-2 in the Japanese tech tree (in line) also has anti-ship missiles. I mention that because it COULD be a balancing issue (i never used ship missiles, dont know if they are OP or not, so i cant talk about that). Or maybe they arent OP but Gaijin is still testing anti ship missiles so it would not make any sense adding a plane that can only carry 2 weapons, one that is not yet implementable (Kh51) and one that is in testing (anti ship KH-31) (talking about the BM variant, the PD variant can easily be implemented i think)

Here you go.

After finally getting the 106, I am dying to finally get my hands on the MiG-25. It would be my dream to punish obnoxious 104s and high flying J-7s. Gaijin pls, give us this overweight speed demon.

You’re not going to believe me

f104s maybe, but you aint hitting a j7 with a r40 lol

we’ll see how it is before you tell me if it’s balanced

I got some good news for ya

upvoted to share in the J-7D hate.

Is someone else taking a look on it in later 2025?

what do you mean? Gaijin never wanted to add the aircraft for all people,…
your only chance will be the event coming with this update, and that’s it.

the reason behind that is general balance issue (no gun = lower BR, but highspeed+ altitude make it hard to catch) the current one should be around 11.0/11.3 BR (yet gaijin gave it a 10.7,… no reasons for 9.7 to get stuck with that over their heads)

I can’t even remember the last time I used a gun on that BR…but that’s in the simulator - I don’t know how it is in RB. But in sim is gun on that BR most of time useless mainly on not very agile plane as MiG-25.

And then we have bomber/SEAD variants of MiG-25 which should be much easier to balance. For bomber you dont need gun at all. Throwing down FAB-500 and sending ARM on AA if needed (they are comming next year) is everything what it have to do.

in RB : i would say 50% gun/50% AAM from BR 8.7 to 12.3/12.7, then 20%/80% at top tier levels

the problem is how Gaijin thought that not having gun will impact your results.

for the rest, i wait to see.
