This is interesting to me, as you could still defeat 9M in a Eurofighter or SM2.
Or, in another word, why would “more” flares work better at all?
Shouldn’t the seeker always be defeated with one single well placed flare?
The thing is though. This was never an issue for the Harrier Gr7 for the 15 months prior to the Gripen being added (with the same amount of BOL). Nor on aircraft with 2x BOL such as the Tonka or Viggen. Was only ever an issue on the Gripen…
The solution was also stupid, as it nerfed everything unfairly, even those that were never a problem and it continues to be nerfed to this day, even though such tactics owuldnt be a big deal between the realistic burn time reduction, reduction in MP and shift in meta. Heck, they could have also just reduced the Gripens BOL count.
Its 1/4 the strength of regular chaff and BOL should be stronger than regular chaff… It barely works.
I have no idea. But in a test with a friend on the forums. 2x Flares (drops in pairs) were ignored by the R-60, and it wasnt until 8 were released that the R-60 was finally spoofed.
Sad Gripen noises.
I didn’t have the gripen at that time, only the harrier. perhaps it was due the combination of superb flight model , missiles and countermeasures suite. Harrier lacked the flight model part.
Not trying to justify the multiple nerfs over the years. However, at the release it was absurdly strong and needed adjustment, they just overdid it like how they usually do. especially the flares as chaff still somewhat works reliably.
