What is on everyone's 2024 wish list for naval?

Removing imrepairable breech and make HE useless in naval, which is historical.
Only penetrating round(SAP, AP) should be workable against ship of similar or bigger class
HE should be only usable against ship that is smaller than you

without this, War Thunder naval can’t called to be a game, and WOWs would be much better game even with it’s horrible addition of submarine

Filling out of existing ranks for Italy, France so they have all potential options that they could have until the current 7.0.

Rework of the UK some ships switched out or added in particular I’d like the UK to get a 6.3 and 6.7 Battlecruiser given the options exist of either one of the ‘Splendid Cats’ or HMS Repulse. Also as with France and Italy, 7.0 Battleships.

I’d want to also see some QoL stuff like improved shell penetration calculator based on historical sources even as just a benchmark, and more effective damage methods so things like the Scharnhorst flood. Also historically accurate shell dispersion.

Fixing of the AP shell flooding bug.

Slight changes to the aiming UI because at least on controller I cannot aim precisely i’m constantly fighting my ranger.

The implementation of FCS and also improved implementation of sea states, this would be nice to see for historical accuracy of thinks like firing on the roll of a wave and also to give ships their real life design improvements for example the UK’s atlantic bow which reduces maximum speed but improves stability in heavy sea states.

And finally some hard clarity of the rules for naval. What exactly does Gaijin class as laid down, how exactly do they base penetration (what factors), how do they decide on reload rate for ships.

also buff shell damage for the american 5in, it feels like I’m lightly tickling enemy dd’s with 5in SAP, even with all 8 shells from a broadside getting hits.

I seriously agree with this! I have had several times where I spawn in with a destroyer and immediately get showered with shells from cruisers hiding behind islands. I die within seconds because I can’t break their lock, but I can’t lock them either because they’re behind an island. It’s not very fun to be fighting ships behind an island that I can’t see or lock onto, but they were easily able to lock onto me and pummel me to oblivion.

It also doesn’t make sense from a historical point of view because both optical rangefinders and radars would have no way of finding a ship that is behind an island. Radar can’t go through islands and people can’t see through islands either.

I wonder if it would be possible to make a ranging system that doesn’t use the lock system. That way, ships behind islands can’t get pummeled and it makes destroyers more viable because they actually have a chance of getting into torpedo range before being targeted and destroyed by every person on the enemy team. It also means that people can’t just sit behind islands for safety and still be able to target people. So the islands would become a short-term safe-haven for ships to repair before going back out to fight again.

The one concern about not having a locking mechanism is how radar would work because, having no locking system would mean people can only fire at people they can see, which defeats the purpose of a radar. Perhaps, if the radar has a strong lock, then the player is able to lock onto a target, so only ships with radar are able to lock onto other ships, but not behind islands.

  • Rework to target lock so you can’t target ships that are 95% hidden behind cover.
  • Rework many maps to not have “waist-high” islands, which only makes this worse. By far the most obnoxious issue in Naval right now.
  • Conversely, fix targetting AI ships (the convoy ones) so that having literally any amount of land between you doesn’t prevent lock.
  • Disable automatic enemy targetting by player AI gunners. They should only ever fire at targets designated by the player (a system that’s already in place).
  • Fix the Arty keybind so it actually works (and add one for tanks).
  • Some way to control turrets individually and/or tell them to aim/rotate in a particular direction, instead of always following the binos.
  • Researching coastal with bluewater and vice versa is a great suggestion (we recently got this for helis, and they’re infinitely less related to tanks than ships are to each other).
  • French coastal tree.
  • Submarines, which seem nearly ready.
  • More WWII and earlier ships are always welcome.

French 7.0 to follow other nation, with a Dunkerque class (Dunkerque + Strasbourg), and for be ready when the game gonna add more modern BBs to follow with Richelieu class (Richelieu + Jean Bart (with different era of upgrade). Big lack there with only 2 old “dreads”.

I think Strasbourg is the ship I most want to see, and I haven’t even got a foot in the French Dreadnoughts. But she’s such a good looking ship and with more viable armour than Dunkerque.

Dunkerque class looks cool, but Richelieu class is 100 time better looking :p

Too much “empty place” on the Dunkerque for me, hard to describe.

I agree, Richelieu looks incredible but Strasbourg is less boxy in my opinion although Scharnhorst is my favourite ship on looks alone.

I think I want Strasbourg so much because she is both beautiful, and a realistic option. Whereas Richelieu would dominate everything aside from Scharnhorst.

I would like Scharnhorst removed for now, with Ersatz-Yorck and Mackensen replacing her for free for those who already have Scharnhorst

I think Richelieu would be able to slap Bismarck, not saying it would dominate it but it would have chances too be a good opponent, so i think Richelieu would dominate Scharnhorst.

But after all Scharnhorst use Gaijin model work for be that powerfull, it should not be. Its the way the game calculate armor that make it so good.

Dunkerque meanwhile would not have that cool time against scharnorst, but at least would give us more chance than using Paris or Lorraine, older BBs.

Anyway, that’s my hope for this years, with a coastal. And a big rework of the naval gameplay/map

Potentially, she was designed to combat Littorio’s and Bismarck’s. I look forward to the European Battleships as I think it will be quite well balanced with KGV/Vanguard vs Littorio vs Richelieu vs Bismarck.

Yeah Dunkerque won’t do well against Scharn but literally nothing does. Dunkerque (more specifically Strasbourg with the improved armour), will do better against other BB’s though.

I just want to see a French navy, I don’t have much of it but I find the ships cool and aesthetically pleasing.
