Not entirely sure, it’s hard enough finding images from the prototype but there probably exist some docs on its ammo
Well I’m sure the 122mm caliber isn’t just for export reasons; 122K60 was originally designed in the early 1960s for the Finnish Army so it would stand to reason that it is compatible with all 122mm ammunition.
That being said, Finland’s 2S1s were purchased in the 90s from East Germany and the D-30s were apparently bought in the 60s as a replacement for the 122K60 after it was rejected, so by the time of prototyping and early service I think the primary ammunition would be WW2 stocks captured alongside 122mm M1931 cannons in the Winter War.
That is of course if you add it to Finland, Israel will likely have other options.
I don’t believe Isreal bought this, iirc it inspired their heavy caliber Sherman’s like the Ro’em (correct me if I’m wrong) but it likely only used the ammo the Fins provided.
That’s a reasonable answer, and I can totally see the logic. But what I really want is ink-on-paper which shells were used, so we can get a good idea how it would perform. If there are AP-rounds, that makes a huge difference. But since we don’t know, it’s very difficult to get a good idea of performance. And maybe Tampella produced their own rounds, even.
dont know if anyone has posted it yet, but man this 90120 with Iron Fist would be sweet. also excited to see the new variant with the new turret being worked on.
