Was the US 76mm M79 solid shot ammo ever supplied to the combat troops?

Sounds like the solid shot rounds were originally developed to complement the supply of AP shells, since they weren’t able to produce enough APC shells.

Maybe thats why some APC shells had some quality issues, since they needed to produce so many of them.
