the entente is just worse in every way. worse armor, worse mobility, worse guns, worse map sides. example: on A point, Germany gets flat terrain after one hill and some easy hard cover (building). Entente just gets some hills and like 2 ways they can actually reach the a point with giant sight lines for germany to use. and no funny zeppelins :(
the entente desperately needs a buff. also the garford needs more torque, you get stuck on a tiny mound every 5 seconds and it’s just not fun
The event is great, don’t get me wrong—but it’s good for a day or two, not six. Also, what are you supposed to do with a WW1 tank against modern armor? The planes are a joke too—reserve planes are faster and have way more advantages. Maybe it’s a fun meme collection, but the execution? Zero.
The event is extremely unbalanced—Germany wins 99% of the games. Matchmaking takes forever because no one wants to play the other team. Just an awful execution overall.
I know April 1st is meant for testing new mechanics, but this? Really? I honestly expected something nice—not this. I’d rather have an event where I have to grind until my brain melts, instead of playing with tanks that have zero value in the tech tree.
it isn’t about value or being a good tank. a lot of people enjoy the ww1 vehicles even if theyre not as capable. you cant please everyone, understand that. however the balance of this event is dumb and us not being able to play as soldiers (but we could earlier play as damn fighter robots) is non sense
Oh, sure—maybe the German players are enjoying the WW1 vehicles. But hey, what fun they’ll have once the event’s gone, right? Back to reality with nothing to show for it.
Had a similar experience. Played three games on the German side and won a very decisive and easy victory every time.
The St-Chamond is very meh. One, sometimes two frontal penetrations are enough to kill all crew members sitting together in the front section easily. Also, the A7V is just incredible. Those are definitely part of the reason, but I think the main issue is the Mark V. At least the German version seemed to have some oddities with the guns. I could only aim down the scope with the right cannon, which also seem to be the only one that can fire straight forward (not sure if historically accurate).
More importantly though, the Mark V needs to be a little angled. It is very, VERY difficult to kill when angled. Yes, the two crew members in the front will die quickly and you won’t be able to move, but you can eat literally dozens of shells and have all the time in the world to fire back. My guess is that most Entente players aren’t utilising this properly.
I doubt we’ll see any balance changes for such a short event, but in general the Mark V guns need to be looked at after the event. Some quality of life changes to aiming would be nice. I will check later if there’s something in the controls I missed.
Speaking of balance, the zeppelin is very cool in concept, but it dies to a couple of machine gun strafes from planes. I died in seconds and couldn’t even test it properly :(
All that said, this is an incredibly fun event, and to anyone worried about the grind, it is not the same as most other point-based events. You should be able to do it in 2-5 games per day or so. Also in case you missed it in the post, you can get 500 points max per match for killing enemy infantry. 5 points per soldier.
I know we get to keep the vehicles—but where are we actually supposed to use them? If War Thunder ever splits into WW1, WW2, and post-war eras with separate tech trees, then maybe. But right now? They’re just meme tanks. They can’t do much, and you can’t even troll with them—any reserve tank can one-shot you without breaking a sweat. Even 1.0 planes melt you like butter.
I’m afraid the lack of inclusive modeling of the event in terms of mode diversity, may set a bad precedent that puts players of certain game modes in a disadvantage.
The low velocity of the tank guns are not friendly to everyone not used to them with manual aim (lack of aim cursor).
Yet, the topic of World War 1 is significant, there will be lots of people who will want to experience this tragic, yet important part of history.
As far as I know, the KV-7 event for the IS-7 draw, was based on AB modes, so were majority of the events.
