Vympel R-73 'ARCHER' - History, Design, Performance & Discussion

Alright, I will try with another plane. Like Mig-29. But he doesn’t have American planes. İf you guys call that cherry picked as well than he is talking out of his a** tho.

Not saying it was cherry picked, just that it wasn’t the best example to use.

If you don’t conduct the same test with 9Ms or AAMs decoying the same way it doesn’t mean anything! Cause you can’t say one is easier or not if you don’t compare

Not that I would expect some dumb basement ameriboo to accept that his nation is handheld in all things Air, but 9M would have hit in many of those cases.

Neither of those videos would the 9M have hit. Flying straight and flaring while doing the dipping in the videos would have sent a 9M to the moon

You don’t even need to do that for R-73, just plain simple flaring gets the job done :)

Also LMAO editing your comment about my username… Someone hasn’t played Halo clearly

But that’s not what he did in your videos! If it was, surely you would have included those to prove your point?

Edit: Also I’ll be home hopefully around 2300PST if you would like to do more testing

I changed it because I didn’t want to be too direct. İt would be disrespectful. You’re playing war thunder, of course warthog will be understood as plane.

I didn’t ask him to turn , that was his fantasy maneuvers , plus you can’t outmanoeuver even a 9B in tornado with wings back, lol

İt’s 5 am here , that will be 10 am for me , I’ll probably be sleeping. I got a puppy 2 weeks ago and he doesn’t let me sleep properly. Hmu in the days after , I’ve been looking for people to extensively test missiles and record.

Being American has nothing to do with it. I’m well aware I’m biased as hell towards the F-15s due to my experience with them. It doesn’t change that I can look at the R-73 next to a 9M and compare how their differences have pros and cons in game.

Hopefully we can find a time this weekend for it then, working nights.

We should trial with helicopters as well, to see the specific effects on the seekers, instead of just maneuvers.

r73 can be very reliable against choppers, but only because by the time you get a lock you’re practically in gun range where the seeker’s fov is too small to see flares deploy.

I’ve found the 9M to be super reliable against helis tho , since helis barely move and the 9M doesn’t chase flares because of it’s IRCCM type

ping me if you want help with American Fighters

This missile seriously needs some rework to it’s IRCCM and AUTOPILOT

You guys wager R-73M/R-74? coming anytime soon? Afaik, only thing it has going for it is a higher gimbal limit, but that might be why I suspect it can come anytime soon.

R-73M also has better IRCCM than R-73, and more thrust which means it can reach longer ranges or faster targets

Any source for that?

I am not sure about the longer motor burn time I’ll have to check again, but it most definitely had better İRCCM. Because the seeker was completely changed. İt wasn’t just a simple gimbal limit increase.

Yes I think that’s right.

As I understand it, it should be:

R-73 should be ±45 degrees seeker gimbal

R-73M should be ± 60 degrees seeker gimbal + some kind of Russian SEAM that lets it engage at ±75 degrees

Source for seeker for both

R-74 is a new name for R-73M aka RVV-MD?

R-74M should be ±90 degrees and gets a dual-band IR seeker, and has GLONASS + Datalink

I can’t speak to the IRCCM of any of them though
