Vympel R-73 'ARCHER' - History, Design, Performance & Discussion

Hopefully we see something changed in regards to thrust vectoring mechanics with June patch coming up.

Probably not, 1.5 years and still the same, otherwise how will USA mains in F-16s hold W and win? If the missile autopilot and IRCCM actually worked at close range

Idk even know if that was thrust vectoring or irccm. It seemed like the missile just lost track for no reason which happens a lot with the r73, even though it can pull in all day it’ll just drop the track for no reason. It happens with other missiles as well but none are as common as r73 in my experience.

The missile was tracking in that clip as you can see, when the missile’s thrust vectoring forced it to do a 180, then it had lost track and went into search mode which is expected because it’s facing the opposite direction of where a target is.

For what it’s worth, IMO I mostly see R-73’s do that when you launch them when in a climb. The steeper the climb the more likely that they flip into an unrecoverable spin.

Someone claimed the r73 we have ingame should not have IRCCM using this image as his source. Stating that the mk 80 seeker doesn’t have “high CCM capabilities”. how valid is this claim ?

R-73 must have IRCCM. Like the R-27ET. But it’s not in the game.

@WaretaGarasu you had checked before, I wish I did not have to disturb you for this, my apologies.

But i want to ask, is there any update on the R-73 autopilot/thrust vectoring fix? Is it still “being looked at”?

to me this looks like it pulled too much AoA, then lost lock…

It hits much harder shots, this was a simple shot, compared to what it can do in the game

The reason it loses lock is because of the broken autopilot that under or overleads all the time

i gather, but from a problem solving perspective i think this may be the issue

this is almost certainly >75 degrees

Because the missile is overleading. It is directly above the target but it’s at that degree.

Why? Cuz the autopilot is broken.

The Magic-2 would have hit this. Not because it turns better, but because it’s autopilot isn’t broken

You can see how gaijin cannot make thrust vectoring work by looking at years of SRAAM videos and reports, before you call it a “you problem”

They fixed this on the previous dev server, but did not add it to the game

Hello.
I am sorry for the delay on the reply-
There are still no updates on your report, I nudged your report internally.

Thank you very much for all the effort, I honestly appreciate it a lot.

Do you think I should close the report and make a new, a lot more detailed report with 10s of different versions and scenarios depicting R-73 failure to work properly? All recorded on video

No, your report is sufficient.

Your report is fine.
