Vympel R-27 'ALAMO' - History, Design, Performance & Discussion

No, you will not be able to get an online copy I’ve only seen pictures from people who have the physical access to the library.

It is likely improved over the R-23 by reducing FoV and enhancing quality or cooling of the imager but I doubt there is much more than that.

Do you know what the FoV is IRL?

I could calculate it like I did for Magic 2 if I had some information such as minimum distance where it is unaffected by flare with X rise time when Y distance from target.

That I do not know where to find.

Could you please tell me where I can get this book? I cant find it in ebook web site :(

@Smin1080p_WT What do you think about this report?

If the thrust is wrong, wouldn’t they have to increase drag in order to make sure it keeps the same range it has right now?

Thrust is adjusted to match the flight trajectory charts for only a few data points, the top speed being incorrect by about 100 m/s is offset by rapid early acceleration and the drag coefficient to match a medium alt scenario.

That’s why it underperforms at altitude and over performs at sea level, this is a common issue with many ordnances in the game as we know and this is not a bug.

range depends only from work time and target data

its already too high
R-27ER now have wrong mass shift, more drag then should be, missing 2000 of total impulse and missing 1.5 g acceleration the result is a missing 80m/s of max speed. it should be 1400ms when now its 1320 at 5000m alt

You are calculating max speed wrong, it’s actually almost exactly 100 m/s less than the speed charts but again, this isn’t a bug. It has been made to match range and time to target data at a specific altitude.

about what speed charts you talking?

Just asking can anyone confirm or has any sources on the material of R-27T/ET seeker window?

What do you mean with seeker windows?

All I can tell you rn is that there are some rare mentions of upgraded seekers for the 27T/ET

Guessing they just mean the type of glass used. Lot of missiles use special IR glasses, like germanium based ones

From what I know it’s more likely spinel cause germanium ceramics is not mass produced until much later.

Fair enough, Germanium was just an example. Its used a lot on modern thermal optic windows as well.

R27EA in Su30?

those are inert/training missiles, r-27ea never existed, and r-27a only tested on mig 29 before it got cancelled.

A quick search shows this to be a picture of a frankenstein’s Su-35UB for the movie “Mirror Wars: Reflection One”.

There are many things wrong with the picture, like training and live missiles combined? Unpainted fins on one of the centerline R-27’s? And yes, they do look like the EA seekers.
