It literally has a built in staircase
+1
I’ve seen some people claiming the XF5U was never armed. While that’s true, the aircraft was intended to have provisions for six M2 Browning machine guns, at least officially.
The aircraft had provisions for the armament consisting of six M2 Browning machine guns, three stacked on each side of the cockpit, with 400 rounds per gun. Two hardpoints under the aircraft could each accommodate a 1,000-lb bomb. However, the armament was not installed on the prototype.
Here’s a diagram for reference.

And let’s not forget the XP-50 Skyrocket. If memory serves, it was never armed or even fitted with weapons before it crashed after a turbosupercharger explosion during the testing, yet it still made it into War Thunder with its planned armament. So, precedent already exists for adding unarmed prototypes with documented weapon plans.
Here’s a photo showing the XF5U mockup with six gunports.
Even better, the XF5U-1 Illustrated Assembly Breakdown, a primary source, clearly shows the gunports in the assembly stage.
Now, the XF5U-1 ACP data sheet from June 1944 officially confirms the planned armament of six .50-cal machine guns. I also have at least two independent secondary sources stating that while six .50-cals were the first planned configuration, four 20 mm cannons were later considered. Unfortunately, no source mentions the ammunition count, but given standard US configurations, 200 rounds per 20 mm cannon is a reasonable assumption when studying every US airplane in USAAF and USN service during 1944-1946.
You don’t have to worry about guns, if a plane had provisions for them or even detailed plans, they’ll be added, it’s been this way ever since the game launched, every country has a plane like this (eg. XP-55, Me-264, Yak-141, Kikka, one of the British Meteors and Swifts etc.)
Oh, of course. I thought it was worth sharing information to remind everyone else that it’s still valid for future addition.
+1 for mini pekka plane
Rumor has it, that his may be the next event!
That’s true it will be , and will be called Dream Come True.
Pancakes for all!
We did it bois. :)
Too late, it’s both
This thing is missing 250 HP per engine…
Unfortunately, it appears that the developers are implementing the 1,350-hp R-2000-7 engines instead of the 1,600-hp R-2000-2(D), which was historically accurate.
Based on my research, the R-2000-7 model was never fitted with a water-injection system, so its final power ratings should be as follows:
- Takeoff: 1,350 bhp @ 2,700 rpm
- Military: 1,350 bhp @ 2,700 rpm @ 2,000 ft
- Normal: 1,100 bhp @ 2,550 @ 7,000 ft
When converted to metric horsepower (PS) for War Thunder, the in-game values should be:
- Takeoff: 1,369 PS
- Military: 1,369 PS @ 610 m
- Normal: 1,115 PS @ 2,134 m
Frankly, I don’t have much hope of finding a way to increase it to 1,600 bhp, and it’s likely that the XF5U will also lose its WEP power.
Yeah, I saw that, although I have my doubts. We shall see once it is released into the live server.
-1. Never flew. I don’t want to see this in game ever

Technically, it did, though :
Sure, it totaled about 30 minutes, but it did fly.
EDIT: HarHarHar nice bait Ostridge
+1 mmm pancakes tasty.
