USS south dakota is criminal at 8.3 (poll)

If all the ships the South Dakota goes against goes in a straight line, then probably the Nagato, the bismark cannot win a 1v1 in this case. However a player that is agile in the Bismark can probably go toe to toe with the South Dakota. Unlike the Iowa, the South Dakota is like a brick in comparison. It doesn’t like to turn, it’s not fast and it’s acceleration isn’t great. So far I’ve only faced 1 player like this, and it nearly crippled me.

that’s if the maps allows it, if the player survives getting behind and if the Scarnhorst doesn’t the same. that tactic isn’t exclusive to heavy cruisers.

It is not an effective tactic.

SoDak also doesn’t need to be particularly accurate to instantly kill a Bismarck either.

Anyone that lets a Scharnhorst within 6km of them deserves being torp’d tbh.

it doesn’t need to be if the Bismark is going in a straight line but the moment it starts being agile, it’s becomes much more difficult to do this. You’re better off aiming center of mass and picking of it’s crew

I have still yet to face Roma or the other 8.0/3 that isn’t japanese or german so curious how they perform against South Dakota.

If a ship starts fish tailing you can aim turrets 3 and 4 for a similar effect.

At least they’ve accepted accuracy report, because it’s another area where Littorio class is nerfed.

They also accepted the 38.1 cm Palla APCBC having a devastating 901mm of penetration at close range

They’ve already fixed it, as penetration was worse first, despite their own formula (there should be some dev trying hard to make some shit to Italian navy imao).

Pretend Branch 2 and 3 are combined

If you have played 5.7 you know how bad of an idea this is with current mechanics.

Yes, I had a thread about changing the gamemode and mechanics of naval completely but it didn’t gain much traction.

I would like naval to be EC, with Players able to join mid game to replace dead ones. The idea was to start off with CL and CA and you would have a convoy of two selected ai controled destroyers. You would have to get SP to spawn in CV, BB, BC, or SS. Larger ships would spawn farther back and SS and convoys would be closer.
CVs would be able to launch squads of selected navel aircraft, and be able to control them on a map, also be able to take control of individual squads.

has that really worked? I feel that players stay changes speed really throws my aim off. Even if they don’t, them going left and right, aiming for center of mass has been the most effective in getting hits even if they don’t do enough damage

Depends if they’re fishtailing towards you or side profile.

Side profile you’ll usually catch stern area, towards you, you’re better trying to aim center mass.

Just got the South Dakota, still pretty much stock. It plays like Iowa but not as maneuverable. Just like Iowa the whole map starts shooting at you as soon as they see you. Got into a fight with a Bismarck, he got me before I could get a turret. Spawned back in and he wore me down again. SoDak is no Iowa, but 90% of the SoDak players will have an Iowa in their tree and play at 8.7 anyway.

well people target you for same reason everyone targeted the scarnhorst back in the day its cause its a OP ship

The reason why the Scarnhorst was good back in the day was for two main reasons. Damage Mechanics being heavily more favored towards it and how massively compressed top tier was. A another reason though not that impactful, was the scale of the map making her guns quite deadly against ships that have their shell room above the waterline.

Is the South Dakota OP against 7.3 ships? Yes.

Can that be said for other 8.3 ships? Depends which one you’re talking about.

Is the South Dakota OP against 8.3 ships? Can’t tell as it’s always full either full downtiers or uptiers. If there was a game where the majority of ships was 8.3, then it’d give us a decent idea on the how powerful these ships are.

Again the issue is that it’s heavily compressed. I don’t think we should move 8.3 BBs up, if an Alaska can’t counter it. Raise the max BR first.

most 8.0s cant handle it its op its easily the best 8.3 in the game hands down

Those ships being the Vanguard, Amagi and Mutsu. All of these ships have rounds that can easily set off shell room.

The Vanguard is the most survivable of the 3 as all of it’s shell room is below the waterline making getting magazine explosions near impossible.

Even with the Amagi/Mustu, you will be unable to one-tap the ships because it can survive explosions/fires pretty well.

This isn’t to say that these ships are equal to the South Dakota but it’s not defenseless and completely useless like how you describe it.

Like I said before, we should be comparing it to 8.3 ships but it’s very hard to do so. As you will rarely face other 8.3 ships. the only exception to that is the Bismark. When in good hands, can easily match the South Dakota. The biggest weakness it has is mobility.

Yes they do, and that makes sense. I would want to hide from a Soyuz as well, you have a chance against an Iowa, especially if you have help. To me the genisenau is the hardest ship to kill of the 8.3s, and if I’m not in the Iowa Sevastopol is pretty tough. Haven’t played against a nagato yet and warspite is really tough to kill. Vanguard has killed me plenty of times. There are a lot of good ships at 8.0 and above, and the SoDak is nowhere near an Iowa, thus deserving 8.3. Maybe when I spade it my opinion will change.

‘I have lost three out of four magazines but I win because I have 40%+ crew left’ the ship.
