Update: loss of fps and micro stuttering on Linux

dx 12 was enabled by default after this update for me, disable it and enable dx11 and see if it’ll fix these issues

Thanks but is using Linux. Trying to revert to older Nvidia drivers. Not optimistic though, since it worked flawless before the update.

Edit: Unsurprisingly, it made no difference.

Been having the same problem. It’s only on ground for me.

Can confirm this fixed my issue after trying to find a hidden graphic setting that was added.

My issues was fps loss in cockpits / guidence pods. changing from dx12 fixed it.

I’m not too familar with Linux, So the best place might be to post here with game logs so tech mods can take a look.

You’re right. Air works fine.

Your not alone - I’m having the same problems (and I’m on linux as well)
Even the menu stutters

“Funny” thing is that my CPU is at about 30% and the GPU just under 40% usage, while War Thunder is stuttering and lagging like it’s dying.

Nvidia’s DX12 implementation on linux just kinda sucks

I’m using the native launcer rather than Steam.
But it might actually be worth trying Steam with Proton. Hrm.

Also have been experiencing fps drops singe the update. (Using Windows 10)

Like someone fire his main cannon at the start of the match or I switch to cockpit view and suddenly get micro stutter.

Getting this but using Vulkan, this is driving me insane. I’ve usually had this issue on Linux, but after the update it’s seem to have gotten worse for me at least.

There seem to be many reports on the tracker, for both Wine-based and native.

Well no luck with steam.
Running War Thunder from steam and with Proton it crashes everytime you enter a battle.

I thought I was the only one having the same problem, after 3-5 battles, my game started stuttering, losing the game audio including gunshot and engine, I’m using DX12 btw

Similar here: Crazy stuttering, even though I have great FPS.

I tried all kinds of settings between “movie” and ultra low - no improvement. It stutters even on ultra low. Lots of RAM (64 MB), nothing else running. Playing arcade ground forces.

I just tried: Buttery smooth arcade air and arcade coastal navy, it’s just ground forces (for me) that has this stutter.

OK, I’ve tried installing “Game Mode”. Probably something I should have done ages ago, but the computer’s been running smoothly enough, so…

GameMode is a daemon/lib combo for Linux that allows games to request a set of optimisations be temporarily applied to the host OS and/or a game process.

And it’s still shitty, but significantly less shitty than before. I’m still suffering from lag and stuttering, but it’s less severe than before. The FPS still fluctuates wildly, but no longer all the way down around 20 fps and no longer completely unplayable; it’s now around 40 and higher.

And I have turned every graphics option off or set it to low.

It often goes like that in WT.

Months ago, as I had a new AMD build, I thought it was my hardware which was the problem. I went from 144fps to 30-50 every 1-2 seconds (microstuttering hard).

Then it stabilized itself. I actually managed to get constant 144 fps without microstutters anymore.

Then, after the recent major update, it’s happening again : 144 fps, but microstutters every 1-2 seconds => 30-50 fps each time. Now I know it’s just the update’s fault

It seems the Linux client for War Thunder got utterly borked with this update. 20-40 FPS loss on average, frequent stutters, frequent FPS drop to 40 (from 120+). I guess Gaijin is fully embracing Gen Z vibe coding with this one. While migration to Linux accelerates as brain aneurysm-inducing, self-destroying Windows 11 becomes more and more unusable every day. Ironic.

I advise to install Steam and get a bunch of titles at discount. There are plenty of great indie titles now, much recommended. It is a better way to spend your time and money. And all work great on Linux, either via Proton or natively. Well, actually, most games work better on Linux these days. Ironic, too.

same here. It stutters even with 400 FPS on low. 30+ ms frametimes

But switching back to directx 11 seemed to have solved the problem
