Update 2.57.1.70 (Battle Rating changes implemented)

R27et also if we dont include DL

It is, if played to its strengths.

Aim-9M is a lot stronger is longer ranged shots, especially if you can get side aspect on. Perticularly with them actually adding all-aspect IRCCM earlier this year.

R-73 and Magic II are far stronger in an actual dogfight at short range, especially when combined with a HMD

Python-3 does not have IRCCM, so no, is not on par with any of the other 3.

The issue I have with Aim-9M is that aircraft like the Typhoon, Gripen, etc etc lack any HOBS, whether that be Fox-2 or Fox-3.

Su-30SM2 and Rafale are able to fire deadly shots in HOBS.

So yes, Aim-9X would fix that for US aircraft, but IRIS-T, ASRAAM, Python-5, AAM-5, etc etc would fix it for the others

Can’t wait for IIR Igla-S (Im making fun of rosoboronexport)

G91Y and G91YS should both be 9.0. It has a bit more retention (arguable) than the clmk6 and that’s where it’s advatages end.

Depends on the flare resistances though

I think they’ll have a hard LOBL requirement. So you wont be able to fire past your gimball limit, which is 90 for most (60 for the MICA, 100 for the P5)

Probably also a bit of a lock range cap too.

But then you still wouldn’t have balanced match ups. Again, its a weird logic.

9M is actually one of the better top tier IR missiles

seeker shutoff allows for more situations where it is effective and it preys on vehicles with low amounts of countermeasures (Chinese aircraft especially)

magic 2 is highly situational and easy to flare in most scenarios
R-73 is easy to flare and slightly less situational than magic

you said range. but yeah no so strong with irccm.
even now r73 in front and side shot will miss 70% of the time

No doubt, but something like the MICA-IR will just not care if the target already flew behind you if they model it remotely as good as the EM

ASRAAM and MICA IR should be hard to defeat whilst also having long range. ASRAAM will have insane Time to target as well.

Which is inpart why I reckon they’ll limit it to LOBL. Because IRIS-T as well would be kinda insane with HOBS shots

Fair enough I guess. I’m not taking any offense to the idea, just pointing out that its a weird arguement to make/position to hold. “None for thee until my better than your thing is added”. Hits the ear weird.

IRIS-T would literally pull enough G to create a black hole :skull:

The issue is balancing

current IR missiles at top tier are relatively well balanced
adding AIM-9X now with current IIR seekers will be like adding MICA in an environment full of AIM-120 slingers

I feel like people who complain about 9M performance in arb just never took shots like these.

But it’s not an uncommon situation. Was the R-27ER not the most dominant missile until the addition of Fox-3s? Where no one had anything really comparable and players sort of had to learn how to defeat it? Same with the Aim-54. Are US players not going to have to adopt new methods of fighting IRIS-Ts and such?

That’s the exact scenario where seeker shutoff IRCCM missiles perform best

Except we don’t have IRIS-T on planes in game, so why are we asking for 9X?

back then we had 100m multipath so I doubt it was that dominant

but I was utterly clueless then so I’m just guesstimating here
