Up-armoured 17pdr SP M10 Achilles IIC - Britain's Applique Kit

Pretty reasonable, after all, more armour means less of a chance to die.

Its reasonable response but its sort of a grass is greener on the other side or what if my tractor which is awesome at being a tractor was a sports car! M10 had a job did that job well heavy tanks have a job and an M10 should not do a heavy tanks job nor should a heavy tank do an M10s job. That’s what’s funny about it. They where asking to do a different job or being given tasks they should not have done in an M10. Standard product development issues / management task issues

It would yeah, but, it wouldn’t be applicable in this case.

why not exactly ? they have the bolt on studs for add on armor thats the whole point of the studs

supposdly reason why there so hard to find with armor kit equppied is cause the armor was only needed for one role once they finished that role it was removed

Because this kit only applies to British M10s. I don’t think any evidence has been found that the Americans ever even produced their own or, at least, they were never issued to units.

I think the Achilles is a really powerful tank, if this was added to the Achilles already in game, and not as a separate tank, it would justify putting it back at 3.7, that gun is so powerful, and so overkill for fighting 2.3 lineups, that usually have 2.0/1.7 vehicles in them

what would the bolts be used for if not armor as its a american tank ? it just doesnt make sense why would american M10s have them if you dont use them for this purpose

m36s have them to aswell

they probably where issued but rarely used as the intended purpose of it was to do this 24/7 it didnt need armor for ambushing as the american doctrine at the time was to use them as ambush tanks to hit them enemy side on as they advance

plus pretty much all add on armor in game isnt standard issue its just crew modifications

i did find this M36 but its hard visually tell what its mounted too

Side-by-side comparison of an M36, captured Panther G and M18 tank ...

according to the original patent this was there intended purpose of the bolts
https://patents.google.com/patent/US2380393A/en?oq=US2380393A

what i see being more likely is that the american tanker rarely used them as they didnt need them for ambush combat which is what the M10 Did early war there primary role is ambushing enemy tanks not head on engagements working hand in hand with sherman tanks running side line support for them

M36B2 seems to also have had it later on as they still have mounting points for it
M36B2 Jackson : United States of America (USA)
it seems to vary how many depending on the tank due to lack of use id imagine thats why you see them taking them off on some tanks in american units but seem to retain frontal ones

this one does appear to have one similar to that m10 in france
M36 Jackson 90 mm Gun Motor Carriage

Some M36s have the side mounting points because they were converted from M10 and M10A1 hulls but the bosses stopped being fitted to the hull and turret sides about halfway through the M10’s production run and never reappeared so there can’t have been too much of a desire to see them be retained and/or used. Presumably the frontal bosses were only kept as a ‘just in-case they’re needed’ situation.
