Tow2b poor battle performance

during update “direct hit” tow 2b was “rebalanced” but no source was provided to justify the nerf into 100mm penetration, and neither it was modeled correctly to portray the twin EFP as it happens with tandem warheads too having a single attack and not a second short-delayed consecutive hit as irl, this thing is designed to pierce the external armor including the ERA but for some reason in war thunder this missile fails miserably at this task, if you hit something with ERA on top it only damages the ERA or the projectile is stopped at the roof, its like a worse proximity fuze HE shell except its not capable of overpressure so youre probably better just using pzh2000 PF round or something similar for top attack since that round will most certainly overpressure a light tank that would otherwise survive the tow 2b

Hell no, artillery proxy rounds are total garbage. They are straight up unusable in most places with the huge fuse radius of 3m since they trigger on everything. Only reason to use HEVT over regular HE is that sometimes you gotta shoot aircraft.
2B has 36mm explosive pen, it’s pretty good at overpressuring light tanks. Even kind of weak missiles with ~25mm pen (like AS11 or HJ8) can get kills by just hitting the side of a tank

Google Gemini?

Please, at least use ChatGPT bro. Even then fact check, AI is both retarded and smart at the same time.

thats not gemini lol you can check the link in the explorer bar of the image and scroll until you find it

artillery proxy rounds can be deadly if you aim at objects in capture points for example unfortunately theres not a slow speed proxy fuze round to use in wt small maps that would be hella awesome since we would be able to dodge stuff to some degree, ATGM-VT however does not trigger against ground targets for some reason i wonder if thats a bug bcoz proximity fuze means ANYTHING in said proximity radious will trigger the explosive both ground stuff and aircraft yet nothing happens it just goes past the enemy, i want ShturmS ATGM-VT to work on ground targets so bad

Or y’know, do it the way folk used to do it. You could still end up wrong, but at least folk can understand how you got to the wrong conclusion. Believing the cursed machine means no one can help you.

Might even come across more interesting documentation if you’re researching properly.

I always hunt and use historical documents that are publicly available for suggestions when it’s an option.

HEAT is an EFP?

image

No, they relies on two completely different principles, both are shaped charges, but HEAT uses the monroe effect generate a jet, and the EFP uses the Misnay–Schardin effect to form a slug like projectile.

Btw you can clearely see that the tow 2b and bill use very different warheads by their tests, or why the bill 2 actually needs a precursor as this jet is very much sensitive to light ERA like kontakt 1
Two 2B

Bill 2

So essentially the BILL 2 is better penning but worse against ERA, and the 2B is worse penning, but good against ERA?

No, the bill 2 does have a precursor so it should behave like a tandem heat, so irl it isnt really worse against era, efp are just inherenty better agaisnt era than a simple heat warhead it due to it’s much larger diameter and concentrated mass, this also makes them to be unable to penetrate as much armour as a traditional heat, this at the same time make them unable to penetrate as much armour but it does probably produces produce better after armour effects seen how deadly they were in places like irak.

In game they should probably make a different preset for efp as they dont really behave like traditional KE round (due to it much higher velocities) or a traditional heat round (from them being much larger in diameter than the jet from a heat), and for the tow 2b it should have two proyectiles instead of just one

Honestly not sure if we’ll ever see this. The 2B was added almost six years ago and no true EFP modeling has happened. Pretty sure nothing else uses EFPs except for some cluster munitions… which who knows if they will ever add those.

I would think the 2nd charge could easily be modeled but I’ve heard they can’t due to an engine limitation, but I’m not sure if that’s true or not.

The 2B or B2 in Iraq?

i meant EFP as a class of weapons, which were pretty effective against the coalition troops, war thunder uses damage and penetration presets, and as for the 2b iirc they were used in Iraq

IIRC the only other than those that comes to mind are the staff round.

Seen how they have been adding new weapon types it s probably going to come eventually

That’s their usual answer for unique mechanics, if they really want to do it they could easily integrate it, the turm 3 stabilization is probably harder to implemente that this

Ahh, yeah:

Seems like it’d be pretty potent against Soviet armor too.

there has to be a way around this maybe making the missile being a three stage event for tandem warheads 1st impact checks if theres ERA in the spot that was hit, if there is ERA then trigger a second impact in the same spot right after damage calculation for the era brick happens and finally the third stage being spall if penetration is sucessful on the plate below, if theres no era then 2nd stage is omitted

maybe its hard because it would requiere adding a new layer of armor behind the ERA instead of being a single barrier? i mean with volumetrics this would be weird but there’s already armor modeled when an era brick is destroyed in that spot

i might be talking nonsense obviously in terms of the actual code

Unfortunately with how HESH appears to be modeled similarly to how you describe I would not trust gaijin to do so properly for EFP projectiles. (HESH checks for penetration then overpressure, which leads to it doing basically nothing if it goes through armor)

Ideally someone would dig up a source indicating TOW-2B is capable of ~160mm to ~240mm penetration (theoretically possible according to dual layer EFP designs) and this buffed penetration is added to a KE projectile that erupts from the missile. If we can convince gaijin to model both warheads as one super-warhead then the penetration could go even higher.

It’s not bad using Gemini, but you need to babysit it and basically interrogate it on where it got the information from. Only after asking it like 5 follow up questions, would I ever even to begin to believe what it says.

Well the issue here is it’s not tandem EFPs that hit the same spot, it’s 2 separate charges that hit different areas to increase likelihood of a kill. ERA should be pretty useless against EFPs in the first place since they behave entirely different from sabot and HEAT (very thick kinetic rod going very very fast)

To be honest though I think the whole “engine limitation” is an excuse by gaijin as Nowel stated above. I know it’s been 6 years already but we’re really at their mercy to implement EFPs correctly and add the second charge.
