Today's changes to ToS: Bans on AI training, account sharing and "review bombing" added

This post was flagged by the community and is temporarily hidden.

Wait which Tos update? alt accounts have always been prohibited.

Yeah, that is the tough part. Just means i have to play on the NA server if i want to do PvP and get more than like 1-2 kills before everyone leaves.

Nothing ever happens

I agree that naming and shaming is unproductive and distracts from the core conversation. I also believe that Nikel is doing exactly that a few messages above; perhaps that’s why people are having this reaction.

As such, it would be nice to see both cases treated equally.

I don’t handle forum moderation, i can only flag posts for the Forum Moderators to handle so if you have any questions about that you would want contact the Forum Moderators through a private message.

Though i will admit that i actually missed that part of their message and have now flagged it to get looked at, thx for pointing it out. Flagging is done by the community, anyone can flag any message for any reason, it’s then up to the Forum Moderators to look at the flag and approve/deny the flag and issue moderator actions as needed. (info on forum flags here: Forum Flagging System Explanation )

If you see a post that breaks the rules on the forum then please flag it, read my previous post for more info.

I think you can negative review but if lots of people negative review its not allowed? i dont know

From my reading and the posts from Stona.

  • Leaving a negative review. Fine. You are legally allowed to do this and if any company tries to penalise you for leaving an honest review (positive or negative) then that’s a legal no-no.

  • Using a Gaijin service (such as the forum, chat) to tell others to leave a negative review. Under TOS that would appear to be verboten depending on how touchy the mods are on that particular day.

Quite frankly anything beyond that is unenforceable. They cannot go after you for anything you put on the internet broadly such as Reddit, Youtube, other Forums, etc.

That never stopped Nintendo or Bethesda, don’t put it past the snail to try it.

So i have a question about this section "section 3.5 (Ban on Account Sharing). An explicit line against account-sharing has been added: “Each Account is personal to the User and may not be shared with or used by any other person.” does this also mean that if i live in a different country but move to another country for vacation or even inside my own country would that be also risking a potential ban from the game or not

I don’t think so. If you go on vacation to tim buck too and played the game, your still playing on “YOUR” account. Account sharing is where you play on an account you didn’t personally make yourself like what phlydaily did a few years back where he played on the Chinese version of the game by playing on someone else’s account from China.

The only thing I could see you having a problem with is if you move to a country that gets better prices on the store and buy stuff there when your country changes and then you move back to you original country and wait for their systems to update back to the original country.

2) Ban on discouraging others made more explicit . Language added: " organize or participate in coordinated attempts to manipulate ratings or reviews of the Game(s) or related Service(s) (“review bombing”), or otherwise disrupt the Game(s) or its community."

I just want to point out that this formulation " or participate " creates fear in players to leave negative review if they are unhappy with your service. And I believe Its against Steam rules because now you as a developer are influencing players not to leave a negative review.

If 50 or 500 players independently become unhappy with the same update and decide to leave negative Steam review, could an individual player be considered to be “participating” in a coordinated attempt simply because many other players are doing the same thing?

except from IP, they’re also gathering PC data (Hardware ID) so you’re safe

i might be stupid here but doesnt that mean that i cant log in from pc and laptop or a friends pc/laptop or not. just to clarify for myself here sorry

The hardware used shouldn’t be a concern, it’s still your account your logging into unless your logging into your friends account instead and messing about on theirs.

Yeah, as mentioned, as long as you are logging in/using YOUR account, it does not
matter where you are what/who’s system you are using. Just do not play other people’s
accounts and do not let anyone play on yours, and you will be ok.

Ban for review bombing?

This isn’t a dictatorship or a third world country - Freedom of expression can’t be stopped with “ToS” , and such a ruling goes directly against Steam’s Creator Terms of Service (Which you must accept to publish this game on Steam) as well as many countries’ general laws.

Best outcome, the court would null this section. Worst for you, you’ll get fined. Again.

Where did you get “ban” from?

It doesn’t, Steam has a similar provision in their terms.

This isn’t politics, this is a business. Noone takes away your rights. This is about people coordinating to to enforce that business to do something, by doing something that damages the business. It’s extortion, I personally think.

I wonder what happens if you step into a store and scream “this store is bad, don’t buy here!”…
