The AGM-119 Penguin is now in the game and it is an anti ship missile in much the same capacity as the Sea eagle/Harpoon. There are MANY aircraft that could benefit from these and they would provide a nice extra amount of capabilities to these aircraft.
The Penguin is a little different in operation than the Sea Eagle and Harpoon since it is guided by IR and not radar. However, we also have the Kormoran in play as game and the ASM-1 which are very similar.
And you can also add the Exocet to the list
The F-2 getting the ASM-1 would be the better example
So it’s getting one??
Yes, technically 2, but only 1 is ARH guided
That’s so unfair lol. All the new toys get all of the attention.
I don’t think the devs have GPS waypointing figured out yet (though they’re going to have to if they ever plan on adding cruise missiles), but older AShMs that use LOBL or basic INS like early Harpoons, AM39, RB 04, pre-Mk.3 RBS 15, Martel, Kh-35, YJ-83, etc. are all open options, and have been for many years with bug reports/suggestions sitting forgotten.
I suppose even later missiles like Sea Eagle, NSM, RBS 15 Gungnir, etc. can be implemented right now in a temporarily nerfed state with just dumb “straight line” IOG until the devs figure out the pathing mechanic.
True but the sea eagle is radar guided iirc.
The Blue Fox and Blue Vixen radars where ata and ATG
Hmm, I swear I read somewhere that the Sea Eagle’s INS was programmable, but now I can’t find a reliable source for it. Welp.
It might have been, but just taking AJ168, giving it the AS-34 seeker and calling it a day would probably be more than enough for now
Judging by how those anti ship missles perform right now, compared to how effective big AGMs are against ships, i fear that more anti ship missles would not make it any better, as34 misses regulary, and makes due to a way too small warhead 56kg ingame (160kg in wikipedia and other sources) it makes nearly no damage
There is an argument to be made though that with more ASMs and thus the need for more regular gameplay for them (I.e adding naval targets to ARB) then there would both be more data to fix issues (I rarely if ever see a Tornado MFG actually using them in ASB) and a greater incentive to actually fix them, with a more realistic damage effect (could make it so that ASMs hull damage cannot be repaired, so ships hit will eventually sink of flooded enough)
So “ASMs are useless currently, so dont add more until they are fixed” might result in them never being fixed
I still want a combined arms SIM mode on a large map where planes tanks and ships are all used together in conjunction to complete objectives and win a war.
So that would make ASM a very very real danger to a surface fleet just as in real life.
