I don’t play on Steam, but I think you can download the game from Steam without changing the account. Maybe you’re still stuck with the PC sales instead of the Steam shop. My account is from a console and I once downloaded War Thunder through Steam with the Gaijin account (linked to my PS account) an it worked.
What I’m saying is that I think you don’t need to bind your Steam account for the features you want to use.
Unless you actually want to, of course.
You still log in to the War Thunder with your Gaijin account even if you launch via steam so no change. No account linking, changing, etc required.
Only time you physically need an account adjustment is if you move your account from console to PC.
That is if Gaijin ever wants to open the thing. You can still play with the PS account on the PC though.
With a few limitations (Marketplace and sales for all I care)
On average they open it about once a year. Gotta keep an eye out for the announcement. That said - when you do go for it and open your ticket it can also take a few months to change it over.
One more thing, I saved my HOTAS control bindings to a file, will I be able to install them on the steam client?
Ye. The steam launcher just runs the standalone launcher but with better management. You can load, save and adjust your config files as if it is the standalone client.
Only thing that really changes -
Updates hit a minute or two later than the SA
Steam Store Pack purchases count as a DLC (I always buy via the website anyways cause generally cheaper than steam store)
Graphics Packs are a free-DLC download
Otherwise - same old, same old. I made the change myself a few hours ago already.
Cool, thanks I’ll download it now.
Could you perhaps share a bigger screenshot showing more or is there nothing to show? (You’re free to blur/black out personal information if needed).
Its not that I mind but there is nothing really else to show.
On the pic I just shared there should be a switch user button where the Email Bind button is.
And when I click on the Email Bind button the Steam Overlay comes up with this.
Well that’s weird. I could do it with my account. I’d help but I’d have to download the game on Steam so it’d take long. Maybe @Its_Filthy could help as he said he could get it done I think. Binding wouldn’t trouble you too much I think. According to him he can use the shop on the internet. I do not know about the market place though.
Before downloading the Steam version I checked the profile tab and instead of “Bind Email” the option “Switch User” was in its place.
It makes me think that I could bind another email to the version and then “swicth” to my account I want to play on. In other words I have a verified account before I can switch to another one.
EDIT @x1BRAVO9x : Sorry I skimmed over too quick - Email bind is your Gaijin.net account > follow prompts
Profile > Switch user
On first login there should also be a option for “Login with Gaijin Account” but I think we are passed that.
Marketplace you login with your Gaijin account.
Store I avoid using steam cause - GE is usually on a set discount and does not have the steam surcharge.
Your pack purchases also counts as DLC -

Thats my point.
The first screen you just posted is this same screen I snipped from what I downloaded. Its the exact screen/page/tab or whatever you want to call it. Mione does not have the “switch user” option, only the email bind option.
See here.
This player profile was automatically assigned to me based on my Steam account.
Ye sorry I think I edited as you posted. Email is your gaijin account email and then follow prompts
So technically if you bind the email, it will override the account. Don’t trust me on this but I think it’s what he means?
It was a pain but I got it to work.
I had to delete the account it automatically assigned to me when I downloaded the steam version, and when I did that it forced the client to present the log in page.
I then put my account info in and I was good to go.
I immediately started getting those Steam achievements, it took about 10 minutes for of the achievements to register. :)
Then, because I wanted to make sure the Gaijin Store still worked, I went and bought something. Only because I had :)
Everything seems to be good to go now.
Thanks everyone for the help.
Well happy it worked though I wasn’t of much help.
