That’s why we want to have multipath removed so it is easier to hit helis.
Currently the aster 30 seeker head doesn t seem to lock on targets on the small/medium size, forcing you to keep perfect radar lock
The problem rises since being a sort of TWS, you tend to lose lock every few milliseconds since the radar isn t made to illuminate only one target, but multiple of them at each cicle
That, united with the facts the seeker head doesn t activate, means the missile switch to IOG(inertial guidance)as soon as a single interference arises,it might be weak lock due to hovering,or even a single chaff
This let you miss the target, even if it s well over 60m multipathing
Did a bug report over it, check it out
I think there are 3 (and a half) major issues that lead to most of the ASTER issues at the current BR :
- stationary helis can’t be detected by radar missiles despite having rotor blades that should absolutely be detected by PD seekers
- multipath on all radar missiles is set at 50m. With very low proxy diameter of the missile, as long as there is a slight multipath effect the missile misses the target very easily with the ASTER specifically (plus Aster is most likely missing a directional warhead like MICA, but I haven’t seen reports on it and neither have I seen sufficient sources. It is missing 100% on MICA tho when other missiles have it already)
- the missile just doesn’t detonate on small targets (despite the missile basically phasing through drones, mavericks… on replay). Looks like it’s completely incapable of seeing targets below a certain size
Theres already a bug report on it (Community Bug Reporting System),the other pubblished at the same time got accepted.
They re either ignoring it or fact checking it… And i think i already know the answer
Can some one explain why the Italy AA is literately useless against KA-52 and MI-28NM? Right now it is better to use the OSA or Strela…
On top it loses the Radar Contact from plane and drones so often that it is not worth it to shot against targets low to ground.
The only upside is for high flying targets or intercept enemy missiles =/
Please refer to @vizender 's post for the issues hampering SAMP/T’s capabilities:

This is also not mentioning the currently overall underperforming kinematics of the missile (currently barely reaching 80-90km max when it should be at least 120, with a report open for a kinematic range of 150km limited to 120 by electronics). There are multiple reports open on that (time to hit at certain distances, pure max range, speed…). These however are not necessarily nerfing the missile much in the current META where everything happens within 20km range
I think this is the key to my annoyance with this update. They introduced very powerful fire and forget helis that can sit above their helipad, get guaranteed kills, and are practically untouchable to IR and radar guided Sams if they stay low.
The saving grace is the few brain dead players that sit there expecting to be immune to missiles taking an ITO vt1 straight to the face.
In my opinion it’s a fundamental flaw with warthunder maps, they’re way too small for modern era equipment. Air always has a general idea of where you’ll be because you’re constrained to a postage stamp sized square in a world of high-res thermal imaging.
its 90kg when its out of fuel but ok
the full missile is 450kg
DirectSupport made a bug report proving the missile decelerates too fast in game, that’s all there is to it.
It’s pathetic how nerfed the missile is
2 hits on a drone => drone keeps flying, i get 2x 10 points.
1 hit (out of 8 attempts) on a Mi28MN. gunner gets taken out, heli keeps flying.
It’s already challenging enough to score a hit in the first place, nerfing it so that it doesn’t do any significant damage when hitting is really uncalled for.
Aster-30 being fired at a MICA, not SAMP/T but same missile
Aster 30 naval is actually less technologically advanced compared to the one we have in game on the SAMPT, so it’s still very relevant I think
Did something happen to the missile this update?
I can’t kill anything anymore and it is way worse at intercepting missiles
