As of now, player can either choose a “baseline everything” and “better resolution” plus "4K 69000 FPS to download.
However there are times where player are a one-mode hardcore. only drive/sail/fly as their main and usually never leave other nation.
With this in mind, I think it’s due that we have selectable download menu where we can choose whether we’re just going to download tank/plane/ship resource and whether those download also include skins that are being sold with GJN. As of now downloading the whole resource feels very wasteful to one trick ponies especially me who only play air and small amount of Naval.
This is already partially possible in the steam version of the game.
I don’t think the standalone client has this option however and does not have a separate option for Naval. So this might make a good suggestion in that section of the forum.
I think this is already by default not loaded into Vram at least and only loads when you own the skin or temporarily loads in cache when facing an opponent with the skin. I’m not at all certain about this though, but if try to view a GJN skin for a vehicle in the customisation menu you can see that the game starts loading it and doesn’t have it loaded already.
An option to not have it downloaded until you face a player with the skin will just in the long run mean that all those skins will be downloaded anyway, but over time instead of all at once at install. So i don’t think this part will make any difference in the end.
Either way i recommend that you create a suggestion for this idea in the suggestion section :) Just make sure to follow their rules and guidelines.
I don’t know for certain but the Steam version of the game lists 40GB as minimum requirements so i don’t think it’s the full version on default. I also checked the Client and you can separate ground/air or both for the UHQ textures but not the low to full step.
