The flight speed of the Fw 190 A-5 does not match reality

Bro cleverly exploited War Thunder’s spawn point mechanics. At the very start, the engine temperature is only 65 degrees Celsius, so of course it takes three minutes to go from that temperature up to 88 degrees Celsius. But in an actual battle, the FW 190’s engine temperature never drops below 78 degrees 😅 Your test conclusions were obtained under extremely ideal laboratory conditions and are not practically relevant.

And you still haven’t answered me: in the game, how can I reach the theoretical maximum speed without manually operating the engine, without diving, and without overheating the engine? After all, in reality, this data was obtained with the engine on automatic control and the radiators partially open. If the in-game data doesn’t match reality, it only shows that the game’s aerodynamic and cooling models have issues

But in the game, many aircraft like the P-51 and Spitfire can reach their theoretical maximum speeds without overheating their engines 😅 So why should the Fw 190 be singled out for special treatment?

so you’re telling me that the maximum speed at flight level RECOMMENDED by the manual is to be 660km/h at 6300m using full power, but you can exceed that because it’s only a recommandation?!

how will you exceed that as your aircraft engine can’t sustain more output?

When did I ever say I wanted to exceed this speed? 😅 Let me put it another way—for example, the Spitfire Mk II’s rated top speed is 571 km/h at an altitude of 3,972 meters, but in my tests, even with automatic controls, it can reach 577 km/h. Meanwhile, the Fw 190 A-5, under automatic controls, falls 30 km/h short of its rated top speed. 😅 So is the Fw 190 A-5 just destined to be discriminated against?

Japan imported an Fw 190A-5 and a Bf 109E-7. In 1945, there is a record of these aircraft taking part in a straight-line race against a P-51C and a P-40 captured on the battlefield, as well as the domestically produced Ki-84 and Ki-61. The race began at the Alt 6000m with the aircraft flying side by side. In this race, the Fw 190 initially pulled ahead thanks to its strong acceleration, but was eventually overtaken by the P-51C.

Doesn’t this suggest that the Fw 190 in War Thunder may have an issue with its acceleration?
I’m not sure whether the cause is the engine power or simply that the drag coefficient set in the FM is too high.

if you think that, then you should stop argue,… i never was defending Gaijin,…

i mean even if it had an actually working engine that isnt as hot as a nuclear reactor it would be a disaster
you start outturning people at like 600kph
(for the D variants its even higher at 700kph)
amazing fm

Ever since I’ve been playing this game, there have always been complaints about the Fw-190’s FM.The same thing happens with some planes that have a FM where they don’t lose energy when turning, allowing you to catch up to a plane that’s booming and zooming at you simply by avoiding the enemy whose rudders are locked due to high speed and getting back into firing position without having lost almost any speed. And by taking advantage of the equal damage of all cannons, it means that cannons with historically less damage but more range and accuracy can kill you with a few shots at 900 meters, something that the MG151 and its poor ballistics almost don’t allow.

Today, after several months, I decided to play some matches with airplanes, specifically the Fw-190 A-8. So far, on maps with low temperatures, you can use WEP without much trouble, while on warmer maps you have to be more careful. What I have noticed is that the Fw has terrible FM, making it almost impossible to turn. This means you can only shoot down enemies who haven’t noticed you and bombers. I was surprised in one match when a Yak-3 came up from below. I climbed and maintained my distance, then circled to face the Yak-3 with almost no energy left. In the time it took me to turn, the Yak-3 turned around, regained speed, and flew more than three kilometers away from me. It’s an aircraft that doesn’t move at all.

Yes, I think the biggest issue with the FW 190 A-5 isn’t the cooling, but its aerodynamic and drag models

The problem is that, because of the incredibly bad mobility, you can’t do anything more than make passes firing and continue straight without turning, so any plane that has seen you will easily avoid you.

not only that
most fw190s arent even the fastest at their br
so the moment you run into something thats faster than you chances are youre just dead if he plays correctly

I have to admit that I haven’t had much trouble with the A-8’s speed. More than once I’ve been able to escape several enemies by diving and putting distance between myself and them, except against a Yak-9U that followed me until I lost all altitude and then caught up. The problem I see with the Fw (especially the A-8) is their complete inability to make a full change of direction. For example, in the case against the Yak-9U, when I saw it approaching and it was almost 2 km away, I decided to perform an Immelmann turn to try and get a head-on attack, but I didn’t even finish the turn and the Yak-9U had already shot me down. So I reckon that to engage an enemy that’s following you head-on, you have to make the turn when the enemy is more than 3 or 4 km away to give yourself time to turn towards them.

Another issue I see that severely disadvantages the Fw (and Germans in general) is the players’ inability to work as a team and give advantages to teammates. If you’re at a high altitude and several enemies are following you, the normal thing to do would be to try to get those enemies to follow you, forcing them to lose altitude to give teammates an advantage. Instead, what usually happens is that the player tries to create a frontal assault, dies, and the enemies are left at a high altitude looking for their next victim, so the game ends in 4 minutes with 3 against 13.

Mr. Snail imposed restrictions on the stick forces of the Fw 190 family for the sake of so-called game balance. The most typical example remains the Fw 190 A-5, whose elevator authority is reduced by about one-third at indicated airspeeds above 450 km/h. However, in reality, the Fw 190 family was never outstanding in pitch responsiveness; they were renowned for their excellent roll rate. Yet, in the game, players use a third-person perspective, which significantly diminishes the advantages gained from roll performance.

I understand that the Fw 190 didn’t have a good turning radius, but the thing is, in the game you practically can’t follow an enemy who knows you’re behind them, to the point that the slightest turn is enough to evade your attack. Setting up an energy trap is also useless, since by the time you turn to face the enemy, they’ve already had time to turn and move away.

I suppose that in a combined Battlefield 109 game, with more traditional combat while the Fw 190s focus on ambushing unsuspecting enemies attacking your teammates, it would work relatively well. The problem is that team combat is almost impossible in matches. I only had one instance yesterday where I escaped a Yak-3 with my Fw 190 A-8 due to its speed. When the Yak-3 saw me getting away, it turned to attack an A6M. The A6M avoided it and started a series of turns. I then closed in to prevent the Yak-3 from getting a chance, because if it turned, the A6M would kill it, and if it escaped the A6M due to its speed, I could catch it with the A-8. In the end, it tried to escape due to its speed, and I killed it.

And by the way, I just realized why people are destroying cars and cannons. Killing enemies gives a pittance of credits, to the point that if I lose the FW-190 by killing one, I still lose money, whereas if I destroy three cars, I’ve already paid for it. The economy’s balance is garbage.

The A8 isn’t affected by the same overheating issue the A5’s or A4 have, that’s why it’s WEP is doable.
(Nvm it seems like you already know it, I read your earlier replies, my mistake)

???I didn’t experience any severe overheating issues on the Fw 190 A-8.

that’s what I said…
