People should try to run helldivers 2 and see how it affects their computer with cluster munitions. However, if true, it would be funny to cluster bomb folks and see a ton of people in game disconnect.
Iirc It was along time ago when they were talking about adding the yak bomblets.
It’s probably out dated info so take it with a gram of salt. I can’t find anything about it now. Sorry.
Edit: when I tried to google the mw-1 a thread came up that I posted in a few years ago and when I tried to google the yak cluster bombs you actually came up in it lol. I guess we are both about cluster bombs
Helldivers 2 handles effects like that way better than WT.
I’ve seen peoples PCs struggle with flamethrowers, napalm bombs and rapidfire chaff spam in WT.
Regular bombs and rockets funnily enough usually aren’t problems though. I would expect WT to struggle with cluster munition spam however.
A full load of 51x 500lb bombs from a B-52 or a huge rocket volley from a F-111 or A-1H is one thing, but 247 bomblets per CBU-100 when a F/A-18 can carry 4 of them might be another.
Even more extreme, a Tornado could either be equipped with up 12 BL755, each containing 147 parachute bombs or a MW-1 that could deploy 4536 bomblets in a couple of seconds.
I mean you can take something like an A1H with 8x miniguns, and including its 4x 20mm cannons, it has a firerate of 825 rounds per second, and the server has to individually calculate every single one of those bullets, and it does not seem to hold it up a noticeable amount. And it can sustain that for about 15 seconds before the miniguns run out of ammo. Sure, people would be carrying custer munitions more often than they would take out a semi rare event plane with 8 miniguns, but I think the servers could probably handle it. Especially if they made CBUs require more SP or something
I’m pretty sure bullets have way less impact on performance and the servers.
The game treats bombs as rockets as actual objects, each with their own hitbox.
Bullets are just hit-scan rays and more importantly, the ones that can be fired in such a big volume don’t cause explosions with shrapnel that has to be calculated.
And again, even if the engine and the servers can handle them, those things would be a complete nightmare to face in ground battles.
Bullets are just stuff that goes in straight lines and check for collisions lol, explosions require far, more expensive checks on top of the fact each one of them is spawning a number of “bullets” (frag) itself.
The juice is just not worth the squeeze at the moment. Maybe in a few years when the average specs increase, but as long as the minimal client is being maintained I doubt we’ll see them.
Bullets are not hit scan rays, they are also treated as their own object. They have a simulated hitbox with simulated velocity, drag, and drop. If they were just hitscan rays, you would not have to lead your shots. Instead you would just have to center your crosshair on the target.
I mean I could see it happening with a bit of optimization. It is something they have done even recently so I think they could do it again for this. The most recent example I can think of is also with nuke thunder. For the first few playtests, none of the SPAAs used their search radar because it would put too much load on their servers. But for one of the most recent ones, they said they made some optimizations to the AI radar code, so they were able to turn them on whenever you enter 2.5x their range. Personally I think they should keep the search radars on 24/7 though, but it’s definitely a great start and better than nothing.
Huh, I guess my understanding of what hit-scan meant was warped by the games I played growing up lol
Though, do bullets in WT actually use hitboxes? I would expect them to be points, with only the larger shells having some sort of hitbox.
Either way, bullets are simpler objects than rockets, missiles and bombs and the ones used as the extreme example (7mm bullets) don’t cause explosions generating even more projectiles lol
iirc when they implemented volumetric they had a cutoff at where it applied. but people who learned to talk today are younger than that change so dont quote me
As far as I know only 30+ mm rounds are modeled as volumetric, anything lesser is small enough to where it is just considered a point.
Even with the announcement that Gaijin made back then I severely doubt 15mm guns are volumetric since they are just too small for there to be any difference.
Ah, thanks for posting that!
Lol. Compression is a way to make a game inconvenient so we can pay for convenience and skip to the top for money because you cant get uptired on max BR setup. What are you talking about. You wont pay money to gaijin if you unllock some 4.3 tank in two hours and keep enjoying it for ages. Current BR system will make you face 5.3 vehicles you cant even pen so you will be forced to move higher and higher. Powercreep has nothing to do with compression.
I would pay money for low BR premiums. In fact I bought plenty of them in the past.
Believe it or not, there are people that don’t care about top tier and prefer playing at lower BRs.
Certain premiums sell pretty well because they are great SL printers. Just look at the Wyvern, Ju 288 and Tu-1.
There are more than enough lower BR vehicles that don’t suffer from BR compression and most of them aren’t premiums. Heck, there are plenty of older premiums that suck because of BR compression.
Gaijin doesn’t compress the BRs on purpose to make uptiers more painful or to make the grind harder. They are just too lazy to work on proper decompression and want to keep queue times as short as possible at all BR ranges.
Its just amazing how clueless some people are
already did

(chi-nu 2 is currently my 2nd most-played tank)
Yeah, definitely clueless.
Proper BR decompression definitely wouldn’t lead to longer queue times and your average player would never ever complain about those longer queue times and potentially quit playing the game.
It’s not like Gaijin specifically chose to turn night battles and battles with fewer players per team into opt-ins rather than seperate queues just to avoid a potential increase in queue times.
I’ve got too many line-ups for the lower BR premiums to show up as my most played vehicles, but I’ve got a pretty large collection of them lol
The only “top tier” tank premium I have is the Merkava Ra’am Sagol and I kinda regret buying that one lmao
Spoiler
I might have a slight spending problem, but I try not to think of the money that Gaijin already got from me
also the game is far bigger now than it ever was in the past, so any concerns about queue times are only an issue in the most sparsely populated modes (which usually have very good reasons for it, like ground sim)
and next update those opt-ins are becoming much more visible! so even those will be much more likely to see
this is also why i like low tier premiums. they’re cheap, you buy them once and they’re there forever. you can play them anytime and have fun.
Based on the Steam Charts, it is more popular than it was 4 years ago, but they playercount peaked in 2024 and has been ever so slightly declining since then.
Gaijin obviously is a bit too concerned about player retention based on queue times, but I wouldn’t say that their concerns are wrong. If Nuclear Escalation wasn’t succesful, the game would have hit a new low this year.
They will be more visible, but still not seperate queues. They will also keep their arbitrary minimum BRs, both smaller battles and night battles are 10.0+.
If Gaijin wasn’t concerned about queue times, they would let us queue for these specificall, instead of making the player hope that they get into a smaller lobby or a night battle lobby.
