The Dev Server is Opening with Major Update “Ninth Wave”! — 02.03.2026

It may take a few days like it did with the I-Derby ER to give them the benefit of the doubt, but if not implemented within patch release then I doubt the accepted PL-12A reports will ever be actioned.

Only half of it is getting a report passed, the other half is praying the devs actually want to change anything.

Probably. But I/we do have to remember the PL-12A bug report(s) isn’t the only thing they could be working on at a given moment. So I guess a delay (even if inconvenient) is fine I guess.

Here’s hoping it’s not sent to “Accepted” purgatory for 1+ years! 🍻

And now… my watch begins. Day 1 of waiting for the update to release:

Yeah, fixing the PL-12A would require quite a few revisions and it wouldn’t be straightforward to figure out a proper propellant and burn time/force ratio. (Of course there’s the option to just linearly scale up the PL-12’s motor based on how much extra propellant it has but this is not exactly realistic)

It’s nice to see that the J-15T’s afterburner clipping got fixed tonight, though the rest of my visual error reports haven’t been accepted yet and those issues remain. One example is the J-15T’s cockpit not being unwrapped properly.

Seeing as how Gaijin doesn’t provide sources for any changes they make, I have contacted Kongsberg themselves for more information regarding their MCT30 system, wish me luck. Could you check to see if the VBCI-2 (MCT30) is still Aluminum 4050 on the dev server please?

I did some quick searching online, and could literally find nothing that said the MCT30 was RHAHH. But I did see a couple sources stating it was an aluminum alloy (wouldn’t be acceptable as sources though, of course), SPECIFICALLY Aluminum 4050A. Why is everything such a damn fight with this company.

Nope, the VBCI-2 still it’s armor scheme like on the live server.

Had exactly that type of metal alloy beforehand. No idea what provoked Gaijin to make this change

I’m not sure either, hopefully time will tell. Would anyone happen to know how to ask Gaijin for sources used, is that even possible?

they used their magic conch

EDIT: report exists.

AGM-154A-1 Wrong Maximum Release Speed

@Smin1080p_WT Could you please assist with this matter? Are you able to point me in the right direction to figuring out what sources Gaijin used to make these changes, or would you be able to send these sources to me directly? Thank you in advance.

Trees in this game are so high that our 60m MP height is like 10-15m high in practice on most maps/areas. Reducing MP height any further would be hilarious in the current state of the game.

All things considered, there are a lot of changes and a lot of small things being added in this update.

On the aircraft side, we get a bunch of model fixes and updates alongside some new additions.
The F-16C Block 52, a couple F/A-18’s and the J-15T, though people are complaining about its countermeasure count, but it is accurate to the real aircraft. It’s based on the Su-33 airframe, so low countermeasures are to be expected.
It won’t fly like most jets at its BR, but it does get a solid to good missile loadout which should compensate. Though not to the 14.7 extreme, i would expect it would be somewhat similar to how the F-15GE was treated in a way.

The JAS-39D is coming as a squadron vehicle, and this is something I’m not on board with. Giving easy access to a near top-tier jet to very new players with little to no experience is not a good idea in my opinion, it just creates a worse experience for everyone in those lobbies. as seen previously with the JF-17

On the ground side we get the M1296 Dragoon, the Centauro II P, a new and really strong SPAA for the USSR (Pantsir SM-SV), and a couple of others worth checking out.

Some helicopters get a few damage model and cockpit updates, and naval gets a bunch of changes but not many people care about naval.

The research costs for air have been reworked and it’s now significantly cheaper to reach Rank VIII, which is a genuinely good change for newer players. This has been implemented before the update but i will take this as a win anyway.

The PL-12A and AIM-120D are both allright, one is a strong addition, the other is more of a marginal upgrade over what came before.
There’s also a handful of new air-to-ground ordnance added across various nations.

The Gripen E gets a QoL improvement for the stock grind, the AIM-120C-5’s are now belly-mounted by default instead of taking up wing pylons, which makes the early grind less painful for anyone working toward it. Though it is almost useless for the people who already have it.

Radar gets some awesome changes too, you can now filter what type of targets you’re tracking, zoom in on the radar display to focus on a specific area, and overall radar control has been improved. These are the kinds of UI changes that don’t get enough attention but actually matter in a fight. I personally am really excited just for this

Finally, White Rock Fortress is back with a graphical rework and some layout tweaks, so a semi-new map added back into rotation.

Overall I think there are a lot of good changes here, but this doesn’t feel like a proper major major update to me.
It feels more like a bunch of smaller updates compressed into one bigger one. The missiles are okay, the new vehicles are good but not groundbreaking, most of them could have been drip-fed in smaller updates. The flight model, damage model, and visual detail in xray are appreciated but again, nothing that couldn’t have been rolled out gradually. The new map is cool and does suit a major update well, but by itself it’s not crazy, and when everything else is also not crazy, nothing really makes a big bang.

The Gripen E QoL change is nice, but honestly it should have shipped with the vehicle when it was first added.

Russia now gets the Pantsir SM-SV on top of already having some of the best CAS in the game and two really strong SPAAs. Three top-tier SPAAs for one nation is getting a bit much.
New ground vehicles are nice to see, but once again, most of them could have come in smaller updates.

So to summarise it’s a good major update, but it doesn’t feel major because individually everything is minor. It’s only when you look at it all together that it starts to feel like a sizable update.

That said, the devs have clearly put in a lot of work here and seem to be pushing hard, I wouldn’t blame them too much. They could be doing better on the missile side of things, but considering the thousands of bug reports and suggestions they’re dealing with alongside all these other changes, they are doing a lot.

(Except for a bunch of things I know… but that’s a separate conversation.)

TLDR: Ninth Wave has a lot of changes but none of them are individually big enough to feel like a proper major update, it’s more like a pile of minor updates bundled together. some new jets or updated jets, radar improvements, and cheaper air research costs. JAS-39D being a squadron vehicle giving new players easy near top-tier access, Russia getting a third strong SPAA, and most additions feeling like they could’ve been smaller patches. Devs are working hard though, so good job to them.

I also hope the J-15T will drop to 14.3. Currently, the J-15T seems insufficient to compete with powerful fighters at 14.7; its shortcomings are too obvious. If it could be ranked alongside the F-15GE, I think that would be a very good option.

Yeah it really isnt fit as a 14.7 with that absolute joke of a CM amount, also wouldnt call the radar be 14.0+ worthy either

Implying BUK is strong.

I’ve thought about this a little more, it surely has to be a mess up right? Are you sure that those aren’t additional plates stacked on top of the base aluminum armor? There is no possible way Gaijin thinks that the MCT30 system can be penetrated by 7.62mm machine guns.

@Smin1080p_WT Hello. Still have some questions about the Radar and RWR used by J15T. I noticed that the RWR’s name have been changed to K/RKZ2200 but there’s no significant difference to the KJ8602A; and J15T’s Radar use the model of su30sm’s Radar and use the data of KLJ-10A. I hope there will be some buff on J15’s avionics so it will be able to perform better at its current BR. Thanks for your warm support.

@Smin1080p_WT Hello, small question regarding the JAS-39D

When the dev server was first announced and opened, I noticed all Gripens (except D) had received a change with a canard function with this report I’ve forwarded about 2 months ago, which was not listed on the dev server changes: Community Bug Reporting System

By any chance would the JAS-39D receive the same change as that’s the only Gripen variant in game with the wrong canard function.

Well it has rather good missiles
If you use it right you can get some pretty insain kills
Its on par with the others and is still one of the best

Yeah it was a sarcasm towards to developers :)

Since I don’t know how to use the quote function in replies, I’ll just answer you directly… I don’t think the PL-12A or AIM-120 are good missiles at all. They are basically just equipped with a not-so-significant GNSS upgrade based on the original models (PL-12 / AIM-120C5). Compared with the huge improvement from the R-77 to the R-77-1, that GNSS upgrade is hardly worth mentioning.

Some people claim that the AIM-120D3 has a better engine. The PL-12A is 16 kg heavier than the PL-12 and has a 40-kilometer increase in range, which clearly indicates an improvement in propulsion performance. And Gaijin has messed both of them up completely.
