The Challenger 2 (11.7) is a miserable MBT and desperately needs a fix

That is a take so hot it might be boiling.

K5 is a buggy mess that absorbs even DM53 at point blank on the off occasion.

It’s bugged in-game. Gaijin intends for it to matter as they’ve listed it. On shorter rods, such as 3BM25, it does affect it.

While in-game, it might not actually matter, it does in reality. Residual penetration does not generate spalling. APFSDS going through a 10mm plate should not generate thousands of fragments as it currently does.

The weirdest thing with L27 for me, from my limited time playing my OES, is that it feels weirdly slow. Like I know that it’s a 1650 m/s round but to me it doesn’t feel like that.

The shell probably loses speed quickly. I wouldn’t know the intimate details, but compared to M322, M829A2, and DM53, it’s not fun to use.

I don’t really see a reason behind this as the only thing 80U has over Ariete is the frontal armor.

Making a spalling formula that only changes based on residual penetration isn’t really a bug, it’s more of a design feature. It does only affect long rod darts, which are pretty much all top tier rounds.

I hope you understand this is a game, not real life.
In real life barrels have collisions and in WT you’re allowed to safely store your barrel inside a house for easier 3rd person peeking around the corners.

That’s like the bread and butter of an MBT. You just stated Post-Penetration spall of Long-Rod APFSDS currently in-game is represented through residual penetration. Thinner plates = more damage. The Ariete is stupid thin.

Then why does Short-Rod APFSDS include it?

All. There is not a single Top Tier dart that is Short Rod.

Advertised as Realistic. This isn’t just unrealistic. It’s completely absurd and doesn’t make any sense. Less thickness makes greater spall is insane.

There are several tanks in-game that have barrel collisions.

It feels like it doesnt have a flat arc and dips suddenly. Trying to hit long range quick shots without the rangefinder is a pain. Whereas 3BM40 (Mango) seems to have a much flatter arc and doesnt just fall out of the sky at range?

Maybe it’s me

T-80U has armour, mobility and is just better overall. Ariete isn’t bad with a 5 second DM-53 launcher but should be more compared to the T-80BVM which it faces regularly and in that case it is massively inferior.

80U is really thin as well on the parts you actually aim for for consistent penetrations. Residual penetration value is also capped, as shown in the video.
MBTs are much more than just their armor, otherwise T-72B (1989) would be much, much higher in BR than 2A4 despite being an objectively worse vehicle.

Ask Gaijin, they are making their game as they seem fit.
Suddenly forgetting that spall is affected by things like weight, size and material of the round and inventing a special “residual pen” variable is simply too much work needed in order to be classified as just a bug or an oversight.

It takes you like 20 seconds to realize this isn’t a completely realistic game. Boot up the game, choose a vehicle, test drive it and spawn in 3rd person. The very core of the game is unrealistic.

This game is filled with absurd things that make no sense at all, I wonder how you missed all of that.

And hundreds more that don’t have it so can you tell me why is that the case ?
Why can we use 3rd person cams ?
Why aircraft can pull in excess of 14Gs ?
Why we don’t get our vision impaired when our optics get damaged ?

Arietes have their pros as well and mobility in comparison to 80U definitely isn’t their con.

Why should you compare it to BVM when Ariete and 80U literally share the same BR lol ?

Fair but more the Ariete and T-80U are nearly always at top tier. Which is why I hate the current BR system.

Ariete are great when used correctly, mobility and optics with good fire power and usually good players. T-80U is more a head on approach and just bulldozes through while having good armour, great gun handling and good fire power

It is the worst one among all 11.7 mbt…

Welcome to Compression Thunder.

Firepower is mid while gun handling is in line with 8.0 tanks. It’s usable tank but glorifying it makes little sense.

Use the missile more.

Only if missiles were more reliable darts.

They’re perfectly reliable at closer ranges.

HEAT projectiles are considered bad for a reason.

That projectile will be with you in 2-4 business days…

The Challenger 2 made me realise that I am a firm believer that LRF (Laser Range Finder) should be a stock modification. Its ridiculous that its a Tier 4 modification in a BR where you NEED it almost more than your mobility itself.

Not when they have 900mm of penetration that you can aim with enough filler to overpressure reliably on optics.

So that’s just worse HE shell they already have access to. 80U simply has mid firepower for it’s BR, which is to be expected as it shares the same BR with tanks that fire DM53/M829A2 every 5s.
