T85E1 MGMC - The American Wirbelwind

Likely 4.0.

I like it, but it looks like it will be completely defenceless againts ground targets unless they happen to be right infront or back. Or does the shield rotate with the turret?

Everything except 40mm and .50cal its welcome lol

Would love to see this, I still believe that the Wirbelwind should be at Rank 4 with a BR of atleast 5.7/6.0. So if I was going to add the T85E1 I would add it also at Rank 4 with a .3 BR deduction to that of the Wirbelwind due to the lack of gun shield. Due to the Skink’s improved turret traverse and elevation I would also put that at the same BR as the Wirbelwind (Rank 4, 5.7/6.0).

USA definitely needs one placed between 7.7 and 9.0 with radar, because the M163 is dogshit

+1, in my opinion this would be nice between the Skink and T77 and honestly would be a much preferred alternative to the Skink.

If the guns behave the same as the 20mm AN/M3s in Aircraft, then yes. My only question is if there’s enough ammo per gun (before reloading) and for the vehicle overall? As for the Skink, those 20mm Polsten cannons seems a bit lackluster in damage.

+1 definitely needed

US AA lack ROF. Firepower outclasses skink. The m2 guns are longer so may have better velocity at the loss of ROF. But I can vibe with either. 40 mm just ain’t doing it for me. Been following this vehicle for like 3 years now. No sign of it coming yet.

Here’s some more info.

These vehicles all appear to have used a modified T65E1 chassis, so this combination gun mount would also be a cool SPAA. 2x .50 and 1x 40mm.

Double post sorry, but I couldn’t find a T85 post. Here’s some info on the T18 mount.

The 40mm one with two .50 cals looks like a fun one to play.

Yeah, it’s basically a better M15. Quite a few vehicles here though.

  • T65E1 (T98): 2x .50 and 1x 40mm M1
  • T85 (T18): 4x 20mm Oerlikon Mk IV
  • T85 (T18E1): 4x 20mm AN-M2
  • T85E1 (T19e2): 4x 20mm M3

They all share the same chassis, so you’d think it wouldn’t be too hard to make all of them.

If you want x2 .50cal and 40mm this would be a great option

There’s actually a ton of these, but the T52 is probably the most needed.

Why not both!! T85 (20 mm versions) for the rate of fire and t52 for the survivability. I haven’t looked into but since the AN/M2 20 mm have a longer barrel it would have a higher velocity and maybe penetration albeit lower fire rate compared to the AN/M3. I wonder if it ever gets added which version we’ll get because it really is a trade off for higher rate of fire vs higher velocity and therefore accuracy.

This one too.

A sad looking thing but it will do the job

For sure! With 4x M3 cannons firing 750 rpm each, this has the rate of fire of a Vulcan! I’m sure this one was on the suggestions even in the legacy forums for quite a while. Surprised it hasn’t even been considered yet but I could be wrong.

A lot of USA mains will get good mileage out of this AA as there is a preference for USA players to stick with there meat chopper AA far longer then other AAs. The quad 20mm might be able to replicate the quad 50cal. Might even find a good home in infantry mode chopping up buildings

Having that aimed at you in infantry mode is scary! And this will fill the AA roll much better than the 40 mm TD’s (oh wait they’re AA too). Given how the 20 mm M3 guns work on aircraft they’d have about 35-40 mm penetration point blank with the AP and the explosive filler isn’t bad on the HE shells. I don’t see this being lower than 5.3 tbh if it gets added.
