Indeed, this aircraft is a local legend and has the potential of being the best seller for france. It is sad to see how it has been treated! It is always subject for change so let’s hope the mighty snails hear your prayers.
Has anyone checked about turn rate ability?
The current SUE one seems too low
You can ask to Pierre-Henry Ate Chuet, former super etendard pilot, his youtube channel is sponsored by gaijin actually. I am wondering why they havent asked him to be the official consultant for france.
The AS30L definitely lacks SEM of the game. In many situations it is better to have a fast self-propelled munition with a range of around 10 km than even guided bombs.
The necessary laser designation time gained is obvious and makes the destruction of ground-to-air systems, for example, more effective with this missile. I’m not just thinking about RB but there are also sim games (air or ground). Even against aircraft with a higher BR, the SEM does not deserve it. It has excellent RWR but is handicapped by this lack of guided missiles.
It could easily have a BR of 10.3 since this is the minimum BR of the AS30L currently.
This major update indeed made me change my mind. Before, the GBU were still okay even against SAMs, but the Strela now is completely bunkers. A 8km range, 20G missile that is completely unflarable (with their optical system) makes it so much harder to kill them, unless they are clueless. AS30L would be a more than welcome addition to deal with them
It is actually very simple to flare, since it has very poor performance against flares when using the longer range Optical Contrast mode. Preflaring at those ranges will completely prevent a lock. As OC requires a clean background with no ground/clouds or flares insight. To be honest, any IR SAM is defeated by preflaring.
You can easily outrange the strelas with just guided bombs, climb to 8000 or 9000 m and you’re still inmune to them, not to mention that they have more range than the as30l
At 7.5km right above a strela I get shot extremely easily by them. They are still under burn even then.
@Gunjob then I really don’t understand how I keep being destroyed by Strela above 7km, while dumping all my flares…
Climb higher than 7km, at 8 or 9 strelas wont be able to lock you and they wont have enough energy to reach you most of the times.
Btw i dont think that the pc seeker of the strela is able to lock a fighter 7km away, iirc it range is just 6km, the type 81 is the one with 8km range
they arent, the burn of the strela is no where as long, it stops well before it reachs 4km
Which is particularly wrong, is the turn time and acceleration.
The engine should be better than on Étendard IVM, therefore having more thrust.
The wing being the designed following the current Étendard IVM, the ability in turnfight should be slightly improved, yet Gaijin set it differently, making it worse on turn time than Etendard IVM.
→ physics are shit on War thunder ?
Or shall we get back the I-16 memes about WT physics?
I mean, the aircraft is currently another fuckin gimped French aircraft that will be fixed in 10 years,… (10 is exagerated, but last Étendard IVM took 3 years to be fixed - bug report were mines)
As said above, the time required for the laser designation to guide an AS30L and that for a GBU is not identical. the time saved allows the plane to be safe more quickly since it is exposed to SAM for less time. and for an identical target distance, the missile can be fired from a lower altitude.
if something cant hit you the extra time doesnt really change much against an sam, at top tier would matter as sams can hit you, in a 10.0 match only the type 81 oppose you an actual thread and there the bombs are also a better option due to the extra range.
With the ASL30L you can quite easily shot at 13.5 to 14kms if you first designate the ground at 10km from you and then move the cursor to the target at a longer distance. The missile has a bit more battery life than the 10km range, so I’d argue the AS30L still have longer ranges
May be mentioned elsewhere but the Anemone radar has TWS capability according to the author of this book (a French military aeronautics specialist).
Page 29:
The book
It was reported, but unfortunately we could not find any sources that provided the exact scan patterns / modes for those patterns, so it uses the Tornado radar as a placeholder at the moment.
In fact we therefore have an Aida radar on this “modernized” Super Etendard and not an Anemone radar.
Yeah, they did not even try on this one lol
It’s not super straight forward unfortunately. If we could get an S4 or S5 manual that would help, but currently the publicly available one is from 1981. The S3 would be around 1997/1998 which is unfortunately well within classification still.
Yeah, but for the first PESA radar introduced in game, they did not try really hard to give it common PESA capabilities, such as multitracking.
Granted, this would be gimmicky on this platform (except if they improved the ground radar capabilities, as it only locks IA for me right now, but still)
The minimum size for ground targets is huge on the radar (10 meters) , so you can only effectively lock up pill boxes and ships. They had an Exocet added to the files last update, so if they added it you could fire it at naval targets at the very least.
