Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection

There is nothing to fix. Switching from IRST to Radar commands radar to lock onto target, there are no range limitations imposed by ACM modes.

interesting, i couldn’t make it work for some reason then.

The issue is i think ACM in IRST is actually limited by range. So you cant really use it at long ranges. But if you lock someone in ACM irst and they extend and you command radar in. It should try to lock it.

after switching from irst to radar, lock square flashes out couple times and returns back to acm hmd for some reason.

Guys you & @Valqyrie are absolutely correct, high alt is the Su27s domain. Additionally, the Su27 and the F15 are by far the most maneuverable aircraft at high altitude and high Mach numbers.

Smaller jets such as the Gripen, M2ks and F-16 cannot keep up at high altitude due to the weak engine and small size. They cannot generate enough lift in thin air. It is why they stay low with a million flares hoping we stoop to their level. At least that’s what I do in the Gripen.

If the Su27 and F-15 radar was actually modelled better to detect and target low alt aircraft, it would level the playing field substantially without nerfing the Gripen/F-16C as some people are calling for.

Well, it cant establish lock then.

There is a 10 km limit for acquisition in Radar ACM both IRL and in-game. There is also a 10 km tracking limit in-game for tracking (so you can’t lock something with IRST ACM and switch to radar past 10 km), but I doubt there is one IRL (have not been able to find a source stating that the 10 km limit applies to tracking)

I would exploit this when the SMT was first released, and they reverted to how it is now. However, I do think it’s called for to go back to finding targets further that 10km with IRST and switch over to radar if the radar are going to remain nerfed to hell.

At least the F-15 has FOV mode… They just need the sparrows to stop detonating upon signal loss as quick as they do.

80km range radar, but can only select targets up to ~60km away. Did they just sloppily copy this from the Mig-29?

i would be okay with 60km but in game that often drops to as low as 45-40km

Hey, everybody. Found 2 significant bugs on SPO-15. Firstly, G band does not capture radars with a wavelength of 7cm, and secondly, according to the documents, SPO-15 should detect F-111, which has J band radar. Total SPO-15 should be G-J, which is equal to 7.5cm-2cm wavelength of radars.

This RWR sees a lot better than what is done in the game

Both report accepted

I found this bug report about the su27’s radar, saying that it should be able to lock targets up to 70km, now we have to wait and see what gaijin says about it

(just noticied, it is from @Ralin too) lol

Currently 60km seems to be based off the flight manuals higher probability of acquisition figure given

Spoiler

Though this is flawed in game because the 60km acquisition figure is fixed, while it should be impacted by aircraft RCS, guess this is report reporting for the few who enjoy comically long range R-27ER shots (my record is 64km)

yeah i dont even try to shoot the r27er at 20km tbh, 95% of the times im picking targets at 8 or 6 km cause they cant avoid the r27er if they arent fly low to the ground lol, for me bvr is not worth it

The radar tho appears to be out of production and no longer featured in NIIP website since maybe 2019’s.

Ok here is a report on the 60km lock distance using a primary source

and what about max range 100km?

All that depends on RCS of target, aspect and so on. F16 slowly flying below you beaming should be way harder to lock to the point it should be next to impossible at decent range. F15C with 3 bags flying 5km above you doing mach 1.5 should be no brainer at most ranges (60km limit for flanker is comedic in some ways, esp for the second scenario but 40-45km for something small? More than plausible, flankers radar processing wasnt anything stellar.

correct as is, devs went with the 80km figure because it has a much higher probability of detection which fits their standards. 100km figure is likely only 50% probability of detection
