That doesn’t explain why it’s so terrible. The scope on my mig-23 lets me select targets at slightly greater ranges.
Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection
If you want to get the best out of this aircraft you should climb high, push enemy fighters that also tries climbing and launch ETs at 8-10km from top, they never see it coming. 2 ETs are almost guaranteed 2 kills. I tend to grab one kill while climbing with ER too so it’s usually 2-3 kills game if I succeed. Make sure you launch ERs with HDN at longer ranges and switch back to MPRF once range is closer while enemy is trying to notch you. People sometimes forget about that.
Nozzle deflecting TVC should IIRC result in more energy-efficient turning, not less energy-efficient turning. Obviously if the plane does TVC supermaneuvrability stuff it’s going to turn into an airbrake but for a given turn the TVC system working with the aerodynamic controls should be able to make that turn more efficiently than aero controls alone
When Gripen fully deflects its canards they serve as airbrakes, not as control surfaces. It’s done on landing and is one of the reasons the Gripen was able to do away with the complexity and weight of the Viggen’s thrust reverser
I AM SCARED TO CLIMB.
Lol.
that was my move in the SMT. Does it still worK? you are gonna get me killed. watch.
I will try it.
As long as you’re aware of your surroundings it is fine. Just make sure you’re not being targeted by 2 aircraft at the same time lol.
This can be easier said than done since you can’t select any of your radar targets until 60km. It’s hard to differentiate the radar returns when they’re all clustered in a big blob of 16 returns, and you can’t even begin selecting targets to determine which return are climbing up to you until 60km. At that point you’re pretty committed even if three of them are rising up to you by your lonesome. If it’s just the one, then you can pretty easily win due to the sheer number of R-27ERs that you can carry. Unless the radar does the thing where you’re tracking the target in TWS and then the return that was approaching you at mach 1 just vanishes into the blue when you tell the radar to swap from the TWS partial lock to the full lock.
I REALLY wish that I had the Yak-141’s radar. I never had any of these problems with it. It was just starved for missiles.
That is true. I prioritize the ones that climb towards me, if there’s none then I target other climbers first. Since I cannot lock&launch at 60km range it’s all the same difference. I first scan the horizon with TWS HDN to see who’s up there, if there’s none then I pick potential ones that could target&launch at me to push them down further.
If they refuse, well, they just die thanks to ERs. From there, name of the game is “Kill any 2 aircraft you want with ETs”.
I’m still learning to get comfortable with high altitude BVR combat. Particularly getting confident with defensive flying. I’ve tried to do the funny trick that I’ve read about tossing the ER’s downrange in TWS and then acquiring the full lock once it’s close, but the radar has just been too flaky and would either acquire the wrong target or fail to acquire anything. So I’ve just been trying to hold the locks. If it’s just the one opponent then I haven’t observed many opponents being able to do much since the first ER launched at a flaky range still forces them to evade, and then the 2nd ER is fired from much closer, and so on.
I do like dropping ET’s on the enemy’s heads, but I think you’re overselling the ET’s a bit. The furball is so crazy that people are popping flares all over the place and in my experience the 27ET’s are often flared by accident since something else spooked the opponent into flaring. It works a lot better on the EC maps since people spread out more and are less likely to be spooked by something. That said I haven’t had many opportunities to shoot them this weekend since I keep being sent to maps with heavy cloud cover.
Still works well. as long as you watch for contrails and always prioritize people are at higher altitutes you will be fine. this is pretty much what i only to while Su-27 and had a great success so far. It might take a while to adjust back to high altitute fights though.

My advice would be firing ERs at around 35km from 7000-8000 meters of altitude and supersonic to get a decent chance. Firing with STT then dropping the lock is also viable if enemy is climbing and not paying attention.
As for ETs, you’re right about the fact that people pop flares randomly in furballs, your best bet is targeting those who didn’t engage yet or coming from flanks/behind of your teammates. Those are almost guaranteed kills since they think they are unseen/terrain masking against their enemies. Alternatively you can target those who’s disengaging and got out of combat.
I always found the ERs valuable in furballs, anyone going vertical is a free kill. Though that was pre radar nerf. Never really tried true bvr, i fire within 15km and it is basically a guaranteed kill. ETs are just rng maybe they flare, maybe you caught them off guard. Never found tws reliable enough for the passive guidance thing, too scared that it just switches to someone else
Second this. I’ve found the ER and HMD combo just lethal in a furball. BVR is possible but the RWR rework has made it more challenging to connect.
I also found the 27er to be very effective, now that the su27 is here we don’t even need to be conservative when choosing the launch range as we have a shit ton of them lmao, with the mig29 i was very careful because we could get only 2 of them and after that the plane would be in a very disadvantageous position if we are talking about the 9.13 and the 9.12 that can’t carry archers. Once i got the 27ER in the flanker i was able to get 2 absurd consecutive matches where i killed 8 ppl in one and 6 on the other, i have 0 complaints regarding that missile.
did they fixed the trick where you would lock on aircraft with IR ACM first then switch to PD ACM and keep the radar lock over distances higher than 10km ACM range?
On serial Su-30…The N-001V radar has been slightly modified compared to the N-001…in particular, a new processor has been installed…The changes are mainly related to the installation of a modernised weapons system and Automated control Systems…
The main parameters of the Radar have not changed …
The main difference between the Su-30 is:
1.New navigation system (long-range navigation radio systems)…
2.New and upgraded communication systems\Guidance and Control, as well as data exchange lines with both ground Command Posts and aircraft, including A-50U/MiG-31B and others…when operating in a Group of fighters (expanded composition of group action control equipment) so when using the Su-30 as a Command post …
3. An in-flight refueling system with a release rod is installed in the pre-cabin compartment on the left…
4. A widescreen television tactical situation indicator is mounted on the dashboard of the rear cabin…
5.Upgraded Remote Control System-SDU-10U…
6.Upgraded Automatic Control System-SAU-10-01…
AL-31F series 2 engines-the traction characteristics of the engine have not changed…
Hey, can you post the rest of this document?
i was flying the 27 in sim earlier today and it feels very weird as of today? its almost as if the instructor just keeps messing with whatever you do even on manual control, trying to force you to roll and stuff like that. i switched to keyboard and mouse to see if it was my flight stick or rudders because you can actually see the control surfaces just doing whatever they want but its not so, whats up with that.
it’s the servers.
