UV-5 (big rectangular ones) have 14 per pod - 98 total
APP-50 (small rectangular ones with rounded edges) 3 per pod - 96 total.
So if it says 96 - they most certainly have APP-50 and if 98 - UV-5

Would be cool if Su-33 could get modernisation to use UV-5, but they are an obsolete airframe without a carrier at this point and will be scrapped eventually.
But it’s weird that China didn’t replace APP-50 on their J-15s with domestic ones that look like AN/ALE-47. Would lead to decent increase in CM count i would imagine

PLANAF Agreed that 48 countermeasures was indeed a great idea and not at all flawed.
i mean, glorious APP-50 on Su-22 one flared an AIM-9X. Maybe 48 flares is not bad indeed

Does the Su-27SM3 use UV-5 or APP-50?
Now that I take a look it does seem like it could carry fuel.
Like, looking at the very top part of the Su-35 rudder I can see it has a very stretched oval shape, whereas the Su-27 is super thin metal.
or it is just extra reinforcements since the rudders are bigger
and they are used as an airbreak
i tend to believe that this is for the fuel tanks. 2 tons of extra fuel is quite a lot, and if you look at the fuel system slide from the booklet, you can see that yellow coverage goes up the tail.
Su-30M2 still flies.
