Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 3)

Are those interceptors? I thought they are just fighters

Tupolev also said that “Only beautiful planes are flying good”

have you seen the “wings” of the F-104?

that thing isnt doing anything but interceptions

its wikipedia but you get the point

no wonder none of his planes were flying good

Fair and I found the name of their prototype - Yak-36

Fair. I just never considered it as an interceptor, only thought about F-106 and F-102. And, you know, F-104 being turned into anything but interceptor by Canadians and Italians

You dare to insult beautiful Tupolev bombers?

oh yeah the thing that automatically ejected its pilot during a theatered test flight and then they had to wait for it to run out of fuel

And Germans

Germans were more busy making Starfighter intou a Groundfighter, with all those accidents

you dare to insult this interceptor as a bomber?

You dare to say thiat it didn’t fly good?

Tupolev made some bangers to be fair, like the Tu-160/95/22M.

But then there are dubious ones which look a bit cursed, like when they try to experiment with twin seaters and such.

Still, none of those will never match the twin seater Yak-38 :)

Ngl, I would love interceptor version of Yak-28

USSR twin seaters put crew effectivenes over everything else, that’s why you have the rised tandem on a Flanker, it gives both pilots almost equal awareness and visibility, or side to side Su-34 cockpit that maximises crew comfort and cooperation

yes

(the mig-19 left service before the Yak-28 entered it)

MiG-19 would be too busy blowing up on a runway. Also Yak-28 isn’t made by Tupolev

Again, both pilots have almost identical visibility and cockpit layout. Very effective if you want to train someone with minimum risks, don’t you think?

I have nothing against those two though, except maybe that weird looking Su-34 with round radome and not the beack.
