From what I’ve been reading seems like the ranging capability is greatly exaggerated … It should be only a few kilometers … Essentially for a gun solution for the most part …
Yes OLS should only be limited to 6km at most afaik? Gaijin is just probably too lazy to model that

Well, radar ranging kinda negates the “stealth” advantages
It adds extra lines of code, and that cost productive hours they could use to copy paste the next Leopard 2 in game you know

There is good utility in being able to lock a target in IR, and then wait until you are in effective R-77 range, hit the IRST/Radar swap , and quickly fire an R-77. It gives minimum reaction time to your target. Yet another reason to like the R-77.
It would be less one sided if TGPs could do the same, like they should be able to
BTW, I could be mistaken but I don’t think that IRST ('s laser rangefinder) triggers the laser warning system of the planes that have one …

tgp also only gives laser warning when you launch/drop something laser guided afaik
