Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 1)

Considering the Fullback could pull 180º aoa in the dev server, I have no idea what to expect, but it would seem that those “half Kvochur Bells” that the Flanker could do (same as the Tomcat) will be more rare. We’ll see

wat

Not a fan of these changes if I’m understanding them correctly… Sounds like they just increased the aircrafts stability relative to pilot inputs. This might make it “harder” to overpull but doesnt fix any of the suggested drag issues that ppl have discussed in this thread.

If im understanding this correctly, this is kind of trying to mask the issues with the FM but will likely make the aircraft feel worse to those comfortable flying it. Sounds like they’re lowering the skill ceiling while lowering the skill floor, making it “feel” better to the average player but worse to more experienced ones. I hope I’m wrong.

Oh… Now I feeling stupid

Did u try the su34 in the dev server? It was hilarious

I don’t like that Gaijin is deliberately ignoring some of the research we’ve done on the Flanker FM, but even they realized that it is flying like absolute crap up until now. At least they did something about it, I guess…

They messed a little with its code just to tell the community “huh see? we’re trying :)”, they won’t ever change shit because they are lazy. These broken FMs are just one of dozens of issues that they’re ignoring.

Does anyone roughly how many people in Gaijin’s dev team work on sensors (Radar, IRST, bomb/missile seeker heads)?

You’d have to ask them. But chances are there’s a lot of overlapping roles in the dev team.

I believe it’s one guy

They straight up admitted that they won’t change F-5 flight model. Gaijin knows that they got it wrong but since it is an “old” FM it is going to stay the same.

Funny… they didn’t take long to remove the G-limiter that the F-16 has, even though it’s a genuine aircraft at launch, exactly as it should be ((((they want it to be like this)))), when it comes to flight model fixes, it’s always the Russian aircraft getting ‘buffed’ over time and other ones getting nerfed.

MiG-19/F-100 - I still remember the day they finally fixed the MiG-19, the aircraft was literally a different one, 2 more Gs in turns and an infinitely better energy retention compared to what it was. The aircraft became so good that people, instead of playing with the MiG-21, preferred the MiG-19 to deal with the F-4s

F-5E/MiG-23M - When the F-5 was released, it could achieve 16Gs, reaching almost 1350 km/h at ground level, while the MiG-23 was literally a brick, these days, the FM is way better… the radar, everything… Answer me, if these two aircraft were like they are today, would the F-5 be as hyped as it was at launch? Of course not…

F-16/MiG-29 - When the F-16 was released, the AIM-9L had a seeker that made the missile literally behave like an AIM-9X and was better than the 9M is today. It became almost comical how long the missile remained overpowered (about 2 or 3 weeks). It was possible to get kills with the AIM-9L in frontal shots at 2 or 3 kilometers away, and the missile would simply kill you, regardless of whether you deployed pre-flare or maneuvered correctly. F-16 players would spam top-down missiles and easily make 4-5 kills per dive, but the real overpowered missile was the R-27ER. It’s not that the missile was useless if you flew between 0 and 100 meters, but that requires a lot of skill for the average player. The MiG-29 is good today, but it’s still far from being what it should be, and it was even worse when it was first released. I was already a good duelist back then, and I literally remember testing MiG-29 against the F-4E, where the F-4E had an advantage in the dogfight during the first 2 or 3 circles, depending on the dogfighting style. It was simply unbelievable.

and now history repeats itself with the flanker… I have many examples like this where American aircraft were simply introduced as ABSURDLY superior compared to how they were after the corrections. I won’t even mention the P-51H… it’s rarely the Russian aircraft that gets more than it should. I tried to believe in Gaijin’s good intentions, but I lost my naivety a few years ago, and everyone knows here that the tears of the US fanbase are more important than the tears of all other nations combined. The only goodwill I appreciate these days is from the veterans, who do everything willingly because they still love the game, even though they sometimes have differing opinions. The intention is always the same: to improve the game and debate about it. It’s been an honor to meet some of you. Forget Gaijin, don’t engage with them, don’t buy from them. This is the way I found to fight against something I don’t believe in, fighting with my wallet, If there’s bad intention, there’s no money either, enough of paying for something bad.

We tested in the devserver, it feels the same, no relevant changes were made.

Sup guys, I have never really talked in this forum specifically, I hang out more in the MiG-29 and MiG-23 forums mainly, and we all know the MiG-29 is underperforming but we don’t really know precisely why as it’s probably a mix of reasons.
So I was wondering if you guys had a good idea on why the flanker is a flying airbrake like the 29?
Also, if anybody has it, do we have flight manuals for Su-27s? Never really seen those, but I’ve seen them for the 23 and 29.

Yes, Su-27SK flight manual is available in internet.

I don’t understand it as well as other people in the thread, and hopefully someone can give you some more detailed descriptions of the problem, but from what I gathered from the discussions while watching from the peanut gallery is that the flanker’s engines overperform in certain conditions which prompted gaijin to hamfistedly just dial the plane’s drag WAAAAY up so that it would fit some graph curve and the side effect of just dialing up the drag instead of properly fixing things is that the Flanker bleeds all of its speed if the pilot blinks too hard.

Does it have an EM diagram in it?
