Strv 123A incoming to Swedish military!

They put in an order for a newer version of programmable HE (M339) together with Finland in 2022
(https://www.fmv.se/aktuellt--press/aktuella-handelser/ammunition-till-stridsvagn-122/)
and
(You are being redirected...)

But i have not seen anything regarding newer APFSDS yet, but it would be odd to upgrade the barrel and not also buy newer rounds made for that barrel (to take full use of the length).

Honestly, they can’t, because Sweden doesn’t have DM43/53/63/73

Leclerc moment

that doesn’t make sense, just because they don’t have it doesn’t mean that they can’t fire it if they did have it. The strv122 has the exact same barrel as the Leopard 2A4 (L/44) so can fire all the same ammunition that it can.

The new strv123 however is going to get the same barrel that the Leopard 2A(6?)/7/8 has (L/55A1).

By your logic, Abrams can also fire German shells because it has a licensed Rh cannon, which is fundamentally wrong. It is impossible to shoot with what a nation does not have.

When the “123” is ready, it will probably get the DM63 or a newer shell, obviously

I do not understand what you are trying to say?

Are you trying to say that 122 can’t fire newer rounds because of the lack of access to the round or are you trying to say that 122 can’t fire it ever even if they had access to the round because of [insert your reason here if applicable] reason?

Because purely on a technical level, if a DM53 round is inserted into a 122’s canon, it will fire without issues.

It is obvious, that the first option…

Oh then yes, i agree. But then you are saying it wrong.

If you say “it can’t fire it”, that means it isn’t physically and practically capable of doing so. If you want to signal the thing you mean you say “The 122 doesn’t fire DM53 as Sweden doesn’t use the round”.

The key word is “can/can’t” here. It can, but doesn’t.

I am not a native English speaker, so there may be mistakes or misunderstandings :p

No problem ^^

They can and they will.

Italy doesnt have DM53 nor Britian, M1A1 AIM and Leopard2A4M doesnt fire KE-W but Gaijin chose to give them anyway.

By this logic Strv’s can recieve DM53-63 in the future if Gaijin thinks its necessary.

This is a gaijin problem. I am speaking about Irl, as it really is.

About Italian and Canadian tanks it is true, they do not use them, and it is directly the fault of gaijins. But Abrams can use KE-W, since Australia has modernized its tanks, with the receipt of new shells and is now switching to M1A2

Then we should remove those shells from tanks that i mentioned cause none of those countries operates them.

“Can” and “have” different things.

Australia Abrams does uses KE-W2 not regular one.

It’s not up to me anymore, I would gladly make them do it…

Doesn’t Australia use the KE-W and KE-W A1? Since the Taiwanese version gets these rounds, so do the other exports

Well its clear as a day that Gaijin will not remove those shells and Strv’s will recieve DM53-63 when Gaijin thinks its necessary.

This conversation is kinda pointless cause in gaijins eyes if X vehicle can use certain weapon system then they will add it if they see necessary.

Meanwhile in WT, even the most modern Leopard 2A7’s are less armored than the Strv122… Would be HILARIOUS to see the Strv123 be added and it have worse armor than the 122, granted, being swedish, its likely to be handheld and be the single best leo 2 ever added to the game xD

Well, the armor isn’t changing on the 122 → 123 upgrade, just gun, electronics, sights etc. the hull and external armor will remain the same as before.

Ah, so Sweden will have the best armor AND all the bells and whistles that balance out the 2A7V to it ingame then… lovely.

Sure love how much gaijin blatantly prefers sweden over germany.

Nothing in this thread is about what it would have in game, and if it ends up with the exact same gun and electronics as, say, a Leopard 2A8 as well as having DM63/73 then it will VERY likely be higher BR as well. I also doubt it will be in the game even 1.5-2 years from now.
Sweden hasn’t even started the upgrades on the tanks yet, they are estimated to be delivered in 2026.

You do realize Sweden can also get Norwegian Leo2A7V right?

Well seem Sweden gonna be winner in the future (again)
